2007 diesel 1600 about 65,000 miles on clock.
Last Saturday left side lights on for 8 hours - had a flat battery. RAC came got car started and 'checked' told everything O.K. Today after 2 hour drive warning came on battery low.... Read more
Glad you got it sorted out!
I want to buy myself a 4x4. I have between 2k to 3k to spend. Ideally it wants to be comfy with lots of nice extras and fairly nippy with a good top end speed. I don't do huge miles but have a long drive with a lot of motorways when I travel back to visit friends, family. I only need it for light off-roading just something I can throw my shooting equipment and spaniel in the back of so good boot space is needed too. Preferably a diesel although not bothered wether it's manual or auto. What are your suggestions? Read more
...remember the running costs of a 4 x 4 are roughly 250% above a similarly engined front wheel drive. They are mostly larger, if you cant afford 18 Mpg even for a mid size vehicle dont go that route.
This cannot be so. How on earth do you arrive at such a figure? Which 'mid size' gas guzzler does only 18mpg in normal use? ...
I had a need to drive into central London, Friday daytime, as I'm now semi retired its something I only do every 3 months or so. Public transport is not an option.
The superhighway 'cycle' rendered the drive from City A/P to W1 difficult and lengthened by roads now closed to vehicles, available only to cycles.... Read more
Whilst e need HS2 - the increased capacity is needed now, and as a regular user of HS1 I know the benefits will be tremendous, the cost is still too high, a slighty slower version will cost considerably less yet give almost identical benefit. Also, HS3 needs to be built too, the last time I used the M62 it was not much different from the M25, a glorified car park.
Just off to some advice please my Hyundai i10 has just failed its MOT on the following

Sorry for the late response, fortunately I took to an honest garage and all it was was somehow a loose hub/axle nut, tightening up to correct torque and all OK, that's 2 mots Plus labour all for £35. I call that a result!

For the Oktoberfest in Munich a huge fence has been erected to control entry for security purposes.
So let me get this sorted. The Gerries have decided to have an open border policy on their actual country, but want the beer fest locked down.... Read more
"... I note the original question was written by 'Kia Ora', who's previous posts included an interesting one on Visa requirements for other countries once we've left the EU, and his comment that he wouldn't want to go there, as it 'would be an open sewer'."
Not only that; he also contributed a thread on Islamophobia. I didn't like that one either.
there seems to be very little discussion about the new mot law that changed in feb this year where once you submit your car for a mot and it fails the car is put on the data base as unroad worthy and liable to a fine if driven, even with the existing mot not running out for a couple of weeks.
this happened to me yesterday put car in main dealer 2 weeks early for a service and mot ( had to be serviced at main dealer due to life time warranty vauxhall) then it failed. thought i would have 2 weeks to fix myself at leisure but no it had to be fixed there and then other wise im liable to fine if caught driving so had no choice but to pay, feel totaly stitched up.... Well - forewarned is forearmed - just access the MOT testers manual, it's in the public forum here:-
Can someone explain the new rules which start in 2017 affecting drivers who use their phones whilst driving?
Does this only apply to drivers who physically hold a phone or are hands free exempt?
I have one of those clip on units which Bluetooth into my phone , which require you to dial up the number on the phone whilst stationary or taking a call on the move simply by pressing a button on the unit..
How do the rules apply ? As records will show that there is a record of the call if you are involved in an accident. Read more
Yes I am an IAM member of local group. I was not explicit enough in my post. My intention is taking annual testing after 70.
I will not leave it to chance. Sorry I did not make it clear enough.

I am a classic car enthusiast (own three) and in nearly forty years have failed to understand the appeal of the Beetle and, its UK counterpart, the Morris Minor. Neither is a pleasant drive nor ticks any boxes for me. The new Beetle was no more than a cyncal marketing exercise to make more money from the Golf platform. The Golf is the better drfve and the previous poster was right about its place in the market place. Hopefully there will not be a third variant in the future...
I passed my test in 1961 in a Morris Minor and a few years later drove a Beetle occasionally....
Had the (dis)pleasure of test driving the Bentley Bentayga.
1) To drive like a loon around back roads its fun and impressive
2) To look at from a distance it looks good
3) To drive sedately it feels swimmy and made me car sick as a driver (I'm never car sick)
4) That big shiny grill at the front is just plastic
5) There are lots of Audi Q7 bits on the inside which cheapen it - more plastic
6) The Event Specification (£2500) consists of a flimsy fold down seat and poor fitting mechanism that I wouldn't pay more than a couple of hundred £ for
7) You can buy a top spec Range Rover with all the toys for the entry level price of the Bentayga and you would have a better car in all manners... Read more
RR not the only ones to use Citroen style suspension on their cars.
Toyota use similar sphere damping and height control on the long running 100 series Amazon, so similar in fact that those in the know visit Pleiades Citroen suspension specialists at Sawtry for sphere replacements when their suspensions fail...saving them getting on for 4 figure sums.
My old 1.6 focus also did this when the aircon was on I lived with it to be honest. Drilling that screw out was a bad move as you have made the issue worse. It's tamper resistant for a reason.
