Having had one as a courtesy car, I'll not miss it! It's a 2-seat girlie roller-skate in simplistic terms.

VW Beetle set to become extinct........... - RaineMan

I am a classic car enthusiast (own three) and in nearly forty years have failed to understand the appeal of the Beetle and, its UK counterpart, the Morris Minor. Neither is a pleasant drive nor ticks any boxes for me. The new Beetle was no more than a cyncal marketing exercise to make more money from the Golf platform. The Golf is the better drfve and the previous poster was right about its place in the market place. Hopefully there will not be a third variant in the future...

I passed my test in 1961 in a Morris Minor and a few years later drove a Beetle occasionally.

In fairness, at that time both provided basic, reasonably economical transport, the Minor was well suited to DIY maintenance, the Beetle, one of the few cars with overdrive top gear so would cruise flat out without sounding more strained than usual. (The body so well sealed opening a window helped to shut the doors.)

Compared with current cars or even those of the 80s both seem crude and not a usable daily driver, but considering when they were designed that's hardly surprising.
