Reading this crane fire all I could think was, what the hell was a 96 ton crane doing on a motorway!?

Surely that must have been a mobile roadblock before it even caught fire! Read more

Hmm ok. So a 20mph wall of metal on a motorway is a sensible idea? No wonder our motorways are choked.

Ordinary HGVs don't cause a problem, this isn't an ordinary hgv...

The other day driving to work thought I could here a ticking noise for the engine. Turned down the rather high volume on my stereo and low and behold a rather noisy ticking sound. My first reaction was that the oil must be low so topped up a litre. This didn't solve the problem....

Driving back home that night I found that the engine was noisy especially at low speed. Once I hit the motorway if I accelertaed over 70mph there was a definate drag, not misfire from what I can tell bit more like fuel starvation.... Read more

Don't know that engine, but as a generalisation I might suspect tappets/a tappet, or possibly valve timing.

Maybe you have a blocked hydraulic valve lifter, or your ageing timing belt has hopped a cog. What's your oil quality like?...

I have a 2006 focus 1.8tdci that has a misfire between 1100 and 1900 rpm. I have had the injectors professionally bench tested and they are all ok. The car runs perfect above 1900rpm. It doesn't smoke at all. The mechanic that looked at it said that as it runs perfectly at higher revs it can't be a compression fault and he says it must be injector failure but they tested perfectly. Car has done 98000 miles and has had every service(I've had it since it was 6months old. There are no faults registered when plugged into diagnostic unit. Read more

I've also tried an egr blanking plate but this made no difference so I removed it

Hi, Will the New C3 have the "GRIP" option
Also as interest whilst looking two years ago for a Peugeot 3008 fitted with "Grip" even the Peugeot dealers could not source a "grip" fitted model that was used,
But advised it was only fitted at build and not aftermarket, However its not registered when fitted
Something should be added to records that assists the main dealer identify fitment Read more

Lady I know in her seventies bought a new Ford Fiesta 2 years ago. The clutch went and had to be recovered from Wales to Hampshire to the dealers who fitted a new clutch for over £500. The car is out of warranty apparently so she had to pay the lot. Do you think she should complain to Ford UK or is it a no chance of recompense job? she is a decent driver and dosen't 'ride' the clutch. Read more

Fiesta/Focus - HJ has highlighted lots of clutch problems in low mileage cars - faulty clutch slave cylinders over a period of over a year (or2) caused the problems.

New designed part & clutches are now OK....

Possibly. Judging by the condition of the visible portion of the handbrake cable, my own uninformed guess is that the cable is beyond further adjustment and will need replacing.

No doubt, as you say, the garage will advise accordingly.

Looking for 130 - 170 bhp with smooth quiet delivery, good torque at lower speeds, something that doesn't need revving its heart out to get a good performance from. Something that is available in a golf/focus/astra sized vehicle and can deliver real world 50mpg driven gently on dual carriageways.

Currently driving and loving a Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0 Jtdm2 with TCT, I think it is 170bhp. I don't need anymore power but when I change the Alfa I don't want another deisel, Fiat/Alfa not coming out smelling of roses when it comes to emmissions. Happy to consider another Giulietta, but I want pointers as to the best petrol engines on the market.

".... the Note is being discontinued next year."

I can't say I'm surprised; the current Note is less 'upright' than the previous model and is rather too close in overall size to the Pulsar....

I need a driver's door mirror assembly for my 60 reg Santa Fe. I can source one from the US at about 25% of the price of a UK one. Are they actually right hand / left hand mirrors? ie the passenger door mirror for a LHD car would be the same as a driver door mirror for a RHD car. Would there be any compatablity problems? You also need to bare in mind that importing from America might entail having to pay a hefty import tax.

If you want LHD parts, Europe is a better source....
