So what's this about?

Well as many motorists will know, some drivers have the habit of driving in lanes 2, 3 or 4 whilst leaving lane 1 empty.... Read more

This is why I burst out laughing at some silly woman who was professing that HGV's must be made to stay in the nearside lane at all times on motorways.

Can you imagine the problem that would cause with HGV's having to exit and re enter the M25 on most junctions going clockwise from Godstone?

Hi

Looking for some help please, my girlfriend has a ford ka 58 plate and a month or so ago the passenger window just stopped working. The drivers window is working fine so i assume the fuse is ok! Do both windows work on the same fuse? Anyone else had this problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

No need to remove the door card/trims.Locate the rubber boot that runs between the door pillar and the door ,and carefully prise back the rubber off the plastic round connector plug.

Tonight around 9 pm I caught up with a newish MPV showing no rear lights. It stopped at a red light so I quickly hopped out, tapped on his window and told him - his reply, "well, they're on at the front, can't understand that".

It seems quite common for people whose cars have DRLs not to be aware they only show lights to the front.... Read more

I recently scraped my car's back passenger door and wing at a supermarket car park -- quite a bad scrape, I'm afraid, as I've been quoted upwards of £800 to get it repaired. My question is: am I likely to be better off claiming through my insurance given that my premiums will increase for the next three-five years if I do so? I currently pay roughly £300 a year, have no protected NCD and my excess is £200.

Another question: how likely is it for an assessor to come round to assess the damage? The reason I ask is that there are a few dings and scatches on the car which I never repaired (nor mentioned to the insurer), and I worry they will notice and enquire about them. Might my premiums go further up if these get noticed or, worse, might I be refused insurance for not mentioning them? Mind, I have never been involved in an accident with another car.... Read more

Hasn'nt this concept "utmost good faith" been removed from consumer contracts? It's still an event which should be declared, theoretically. At renewal time, only if there is a clear, specific question about incidents. Marine contracts though may be still subject to the principle, which is where the phrase derives IIRC.

I recently found a car at a dealer whilst using car trader, the photos looked presentable, the details written stated it was a good condition car. I rang them up they said they would hold the car for me to view at £200 price. I paid that with credit card. I went to see it, the salesman was unpolite passed me the keys and told me "it was up there" had a look at the car it had dents and damage all over the body, it was filthy but was told it just had a valet; mould had started to corrode the rubber seals. the car wouldn't even start as the battery was flat. The interior was damaged and scratched. The windows were electric and wouldn't even go back up. Under the bonnet, all reservoir's i.e. the coolant was overfilled. Didn't even take it for a test drive as I dared to think what the engine was like. This car was nothing like it was stated in the advertisment. I also made a list of all the faults from what they advertised and the substancial evidence. I Spoke to another salesman and he was very rude and straight away said he wasn't going to drop the price. He stated with witnesses present that "they dont advertise their cars properly as no one would buy them" where do I stand legally with asking my holding fee back as the car was far from what it was advertised or shown in photos.

Interesting comment about car supermarkets from The Broker, who is clearly in the industry and knows his stuff.

Any other experiences of these?...

I know HJ did a short piece on this a couple of years back but from what I recall it only compared two tyres.

I am looking to find a durable, presumably harder, compound of tyre. Is there a particular tyre I can look out for that is known to last longer than most? I drive like an OAP so grip won't be a major issue.... Read more

Very good - typical German thoroughness.

But - what happens when the specified tyre is discontinued by the tyre manufacturer as quite often happens?

Hello. I've read the Highway Code a few times, but I can't seem to find a few things there. I will try to explain the situations and include pictures as well.

On my ford fiesta, there is a component called Thermal Resistor, could be faulty. When it blows, your stuck with cold air. Mine kept blowing due to faulty heater motor. They are around £40-00 each inc labour. Only one is usually fitted. Thermal resistor could be faulty. I have my air-con all the time with warm/hot air, and controlled with temperature dial on dashboard. 3rd party garage will kindly look at thermal resistor for you. Thermal resistors are only available from Ford directly. No 3rd party distributor for part i'm afraid.

I have a number of classic cars. One of them has had a serious engine failure. I have found a club member who is breaking a rotted out example with a good engine/gearbox. The problem is transporting it (I imagine it would have to be palleted). Does anybody have any advice? The journey is from South Yorkshire to North Hertfordshire. Thank you... Read more

Thanks for the comments. Quite a few options to follow up. My main reason for not transporting it myself is that L4 and L5 have prolapsed and the consultant has set a 28lb lifting limit....
