Hi, wondering if anyone can help/offer a bit of advice.
Put my car in for a full service 2 days ago. The car has never given me any issues. It is 6 years old but only done 30,000miles. 1.4 petrol engine. There were a few things recommended (brake pads, new tyres), nothing mentioned about battery/engine. ... Read more
I see that the Peugeot 308s are available at very attractive prices, in the second hand market.
They are available at prices the Focus used to be available at, 5 - 6 years ago.... Read more
Problem comes when it's time to sell it on or trade it in, they're next to worthless at 6-7old when a Focus, Golf, Civic or Octavia would be repaying much of your initial outlay.
Doesn't that indicate buying one at 6-7 years old?
The title says "good buy second hand" so new car depreciation seems at worst irrelevant and at best a benefit....
My partners 207 has done 50k and the recommended belt change is not until 80k.
Can this be right as the car is now seven years old ? Read more

On another thread, a fellow back roomer made the comment that the Kia Ceed has issues with rotting front sub frames.
See thread link below.... Read more
Kia have a 'product improvement' campaign in place where they're changing front subframes for free when required.
Read a post by a chap recently regarding Ceed subframes. His 2009 Ceed had failed its MOT and the non-Kia garage who did the test told him to scrap it. He bought a used subframe from a later Ceed which apparantly fitted fine once non-required brackets had been removed and the car then passed its test....
Last week, my Merc Specialist noted feathering on the inside edge of the front tyres of my A180. Recommended wheel alignment (which they don't do).
Rang round the usual suspects this morning including two Independent Tyre outlets for a quote for front wheel alignment.... Read more
I always find Kwik f. FINE--BUT for the life of me--I don't see them being any quicker than any other fast chain--in fact my gut sense is that they can often be slower.
I worked for an outfit similar but only for an inbetween job changing garages, rule of thumb used to be the fastest fitter got the best bonus jobs (which also meant they were the best earners) but it didn`t always mean the best of workmanship...

I'm looking to see if anyone has had issues with replacement wheel bearings:
I've replaced both front wheel bearings and discs on my Volvo v50 (2.0l D). There is no bearing retaining ring, they rely on an interference fit.... Read more
What about the bolt in the centre of hub?
I'm wanting to replace the coolant for the winter. Does anyone know if the Hyundai diesel's have a sump at the bottom or if I need to disconnect the hoses to drain? Thanks in advance Read more
Nothing to do with oxygen - the glycol breaks down with heat and forms acid species which attack various components. The corrosion inhibitors buffer the coolant to stop the attack. If it's still clear then no reason to change it.
Hi all, help on this would be much appreciated. My Corsa makes this noise on cold starts and it goes away once the engine is warmed up. It's a 1.3 cdti. Hopefully these videos will help as i would like to get it sorted. I've searched about on the internet and cant seem to find anything.
Sorry I don't know how to embed videos

You could slip the serpentine belt off and see if the noise is still there or not. Obviously don't drive it without the belt as it turns the waterpump. Failing that buy yourself a car stethoscope and have a listen with that.
For the first time I have seen it acknowledged that ‘modern’ headlights dazzle other drivers. There is an article in one of the institute on-line news releases that Osram have developed a system of headlights that are devised to prevent glare to on-coming drivers. The system was developed in collaboration with Daimler, Frauenhofer Institutes, Hella and Infineon. Funding was provided by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Several ‘things’ are necessary for measuring the amount of light needed, including, but probably not restricted to, a camera, maps, and sensors measuring acceleration, steering, levelling and ambient light/rain. Algorithms are involved and CAN bus systems to individually control the light output of LED pixels. It sounds very clever and no doubt expensive.... Read more
JG and DC. I have used the sun visors down since I started driving more than 50 years ago. I don't like the glare from the sky or the street lights. When I give lifts to people they frequently lift the visor and I ask them why they want to see the aeroplanes then I put the visors down again.
A question about yellow tinted lenses. I have ordered a pair of over glasses and a pair of flip down lenses from Easylifegroup, due to arrive before Xmas. Can one of the expert BRs tell me how they work ? Does the yellow tint filter the headlights ? The tungsten filament bulbs tend to give a yellow coloured light but the newer headlights - and the ones that cause most glare - are white. Do the lenses still work ?
My money is the the brake light switch being on it's way out. This will cause the EPC light to come on and cause problems. As previous poster has mentioned this is a failsafe mechnism that cuts fuel supply
