Yesterday started the car and had no problems untill i took off. Started to hear a noise and got scared that it was the turbo wich was changed less than 2 weeks ago. Instead it was the alternator. I changed that and after I left the service, at about 20 to 30 minutes I see the battery indicator up.
Checked the altenator and it was realy hot and was making the sound again. I restarted the car and the battery light went off untill after 30 seconds.
Alternator is making 14.5-14.6 at idle and right when the battery indicator comes on, lights dim and voltage drops to 13.4-13.6.
The alternator is off used car but my opinion is that it-s working fine and something is taking extremly much amperage and cant seem to find what. Battery doesent die form a day to the next and the problem seems to be manifesting when engine is running.... Read more
Took my alternator to be refurbished. The alternator was „MELTED”, quoting the tehnician. Only the shell remaind of it.
Put it on the car and seems to be working fine. The service told me that the first alternator that I put in had a faulty charging relay and recomended I put a new one or refurbish mine.
Now that I think about it, a month and a half prior to the alternator going bad, I started having problems with the nav.sistem because the time and date was resetting its self. The problems stoped 1 week before the alternator going bad. I dont know if this is related in any way but when the alt. did go bad, it drained the battery realy quick and had to disconect it just to get the car home. Jump started the car and battery held up pretty good. Dashboard went off 1km before destination; no speed indicator , no lights, no nav, but engine was running fine.
i need to fit a new clutch m/c to the focus , seems straight forward enough except i can barely see the bleed nipple , do i have to strip half the engine bay to get at it or is there a way to reach from underneath

Just bought a 55 plate ford ranger from a dodgy dealer, sold as a runner, but no warranty due to price.
Problem drives fine up to 60 mph, when accelerating past this speed, engine starts to miss, vehicle has no more power, and, glow plug light comes on.
Vehicle starts ok from cold, glow light goes out, vehicle drives fine up to 60.
Local garage struggling with diagnosis. Any responses appreciated. Vehicle only done 31k, seems correct, from service history, vehicle is in immaculate condition. Read more
Flashing glow plug light indicates a fault with the engine control ssytem.
Can you help guide me to the battery location on my car.
And will I need to bridge the battery when changing over?

Pistonheads and ebay classified are quite good for cars like this,
Take lots of photos, lots of detail of the service history etc. You need to try and appeal to an E39 enthuisiast to get a good price so look like you're an enthusiast selling....

Regarding the 1.6TDi VW engine in AJ's Polo. I ran the same engine in a Touran with the 7 Sp DSG. The EGR valve failed after 2 Years, a known weakness, followed by the EGR coolant sensor, then another coolant sensor, then finally an ABS sensor, all known issues, but all fixed under warranty. While it never broke down, it was getting stressful waiting for the next failure, so sold it and bought a RAV4 Petrol Hybrid last week. Stay away from this VW diesel, the diesel gate recall will probably make it worse as they have to modify the air mass sensor mesh! Go petrol but not a VW one as new ones will have a Particulate Filter fitted! Read more

It is not a stupid tax, it is a tax.
In switzerland my overall tax rate was a lot lower than the uk, and yes, i feel a lot easier, but taxed on my house CHF 12,000. a year as no mortgage......

If it has a belt,time change would be 2-2.5 hours.I would check the engine type ,as it may be chain driven.
