Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could provide any advice.... Read more

Hi James,

Could we be overlooking the fact that Honda had a problem with the handbrake mechanism when the parts were manufactured by a Spanish sub contractor, shortly after returning to the original UK supplier to replace the faulty component....

Hi, I needed replace the Heater Blower Fan Resistor as it was only working on one speed setting. When replacing the resistor i removed the glove box and disconnected the airbag connector block from the side of the glove box. I installed the fan resistor, reconnected the airbag connector block and put the glove box back in place.

Now the airbag warning light is lit on the dash. Could someone advise me how to reset the light?... Read more

Also, you may wish to investigate why the resistor went - if it was due to the fan not turning properly and drawing too much current, there may be a danger of it catching fire as per Vauxhall Zafiras.

Hi

Hope someone can advise.
Daughter was on way to work this morning and was approached by a council litter officer and issued a fine for dropping litter.
My daughter says that she had pulled her phone out of her coat pocket and unaware a receipt was dragged out with it which dropped to the floor behind her. As there were strong winds this morning, the winds blew the paper away without her noticing.
This officer approached her and issued a fine.
Where does she stand as she is has been brought up not to litter and she feels that a genuine mistake was made.
Is there an redress as with parking notices or is it only contestable in court?

Regards in anticipation of any replies. Read more

Yes that's the legislation.
But she insists it was accidental yet their opinion is she dropped it. They gave her no option to pick it up.
So in her case these guys did not adhere to those rules and provided no evidence whatsoever.
If it were me I'd be going to court. She is apathetic and feels like paying the pcn to get thevissue closed.
I contacted the leader of Kingston Council by email and he said he presumed these guys would of had body cams but that as it is relatively new they may have not been in possession.
I contacted the local radio station and they want to do an interview.

Hello everyone,

First time poster. I passed my driving test 2 weeks ago and I've been looking at options for getting a car. I currently do the 40 mile commute to work each way by bus, train then 20 minute walk.... Read more

Something else to ponder .... I drive a 40 mile commute twice a day, that's 400 miles a week ... I have considered replacing my car, I want something with a fuel tank large enough to cover a full weeks commute with just one weekend fill up, 60 minutes driving twice a day is one matter, visiting the fuel station on the way home really is a bore!

Many diesels will cover this range, but for petrol cars it's more difficult to be sure....

I'm looking to change my 2005 Honda Accord 2.2CDTI for an SUV and have around 8K to spend, I've had some helpful advice here with regard to viable alternatives of the non-diesel kind which has been gratefully received. My fear is that if I do buy a diesel (which to be honest I would prefer) I run the risk of the DPF issues that seem to be prevalent among the cars travelling shorter distances. I mostly do short trips of say, 15 miles or so but also the odd longer trip of 75 miles maybe once per month( inc 30 miles of motorway). My fear is that if I do buy a diesel I'm almost certainly going to encounter the dreaded DPF issue due to my short trips. Would this be a fair assumption or is it just that I'm just hearing the bad side of this subject? I'm happy to take the car out for a 'blast' along the motorway to keep the DPF in 'good fettle' but would I have to do this once a week/month/year or what? My annual mileage is probably somewhere in the region of 12K and a majority of this is done on 30mph roads.

I think that my lack of understanding (or is it?) could well be preventing me from considering a diesel but it may well be that my understanding is correct and I need to steer clear of one.... Read more

So it seems that in this environment if you own a diesel with DPF you are unlikely to be able to give it the high rev treatment DPF owners are recommended to do regularly.

Yet dealers there still sell diesel cars to residents and I would guess a lot of them don't know of this issue....

My wifes Captur bought from new has around 16000 miles on it. Over the last couple of weeks we've noticed the clutch snatches when pulling away, it's almost like you are dumping it as you drive off, this occures in 2nd and 3rd but to a lesser extent. It's a manual.

My wife knows how to drive and use a clutch so it's not her style of driving.... Read more

The latter two problems are or should be unquestionable warranty fixes but i'd be careful as to their reaction to the clutch issue, if they decide its wear and tear (they might) you want to know up front what the bill for a new clutch and probably DMF will be..before they dismantle it to inspect!.

If you have any good reliable indy's in your area i'd be inclined to get a quote or two for replacement with LUK or similar high grade OE quality parts...armed with that knowledge before you approach the service desk gives you a better idea which way to jump....

The brake warning light comes on first thing but goes out when I press the pedal
The pads are fine but when I tried to fill the reservoir I was unable to get any fluid past the filter in the neck of the filler.
Tried bleeding the reservoir with the bleed screw to no avail. The level is above the joint but not quite up to the max.
Could this trigger the brake alert if there is a sensor in the top of the reservoir and is it possible to remove the filter? Read more

Could be front pads worn . May want to check the pad sensor wiring for breaks or rub outs . Runs down the suspension strut . (Can’t remember which side ) it’s incorporated with the abs sensor wiring.

Tall order. If you're shopping on a tight budget I normally wouldn't recommend a complex turbo Diesel engine but as you intend on towing it's understandable why you'd need it and this is one of the most robust if looked after.

The VAG 1900 PD is a great, hard wearing engine but most will be abused workhorses that've been run on a shoestring. Buy only with a full service history and remember they need a timing belt, tensioner and water pump every five years regardless of mileage. It's highly unlikely anyone will have done this shortly before selling so it's likely to be due or overdue on any you look at. It's a £300 plus job on these but don't scrimp on it, it'll kill the engine if it snaps.

Avoid anything with a DPF (don't think it was ever fitted to this gen of Galaxy but could be wrong) this engine was never designed with it in mind and it is notorious for going wrong. Buy on condition and history over age or mileage and pay extra for a good one, a cheap one is a false economy.

Don't expect an old turbo diesel with a six figure mileage to be completely reliable or cheap to run, there will be problems. Also don't focus on one particular car at this limited price range. There are other good big diesel estates such as the VW Passat, Toyota Avensis 2.0 D4 or Volvo V70 D5 around at similar money. Buy the best looked after car that's been owned for a long time by the previous owner.

Airbag connectors are very often yellow/orange in colour. But there are many exceptions.Yours could be one of them.

Anecdotally, I've heard the wet 6-speed lasts but the dry 7-speed doesn't.

Where I worked until recently we had a Golf 2.0 TDi DSG which obviously had the 6 speed wet clutch box. It had 2 users before becoming a pool car. The first user looked after it like a new born, the second simply abused it. As a pool car who knows how it got treated. After 150,000 miles no gearbox or clutch problems.
