My car finishes its 5 year warranty shortly but hanging onto it seems vastly more attractive than the charade involved in buying another one.

A well maintained car should be good for at least ten years and probably much more depending on your mileage. I kept one for 25 years with minimal problems and minimal expense. My current one is thirteen years old and I am not planning to replace it. It is nice having a new car but the thrill wears off in a couple of weeks and then it is just another car.

Great choice, I'm a big fan of the Superb. The estate was on my shortlist last time but the steering committee wanted something tall she could lord it over everyone else. Well bought!

It is actually a multi function injection relay, usually either black or brown in colour.Could be attached to the battery frame or engine control unit housing. Not too sure how anyone can guess at this being the problem. If you can't find it,you can't test it.

So your dampers are past their best, and they're either leaking or not controlling the springs very well.

In the past I've changed dampers and kept the original springs. They were keeping the car at the right height and not showing signs of fatigue.... Read more

I swapped all springs on my old MX5 after one front and one rear went in a couple of weeks. Breakages were one turn up where the spring passed over the end of the coil.

There were rumours of a bad batch of springs circa 1990

I'm thinking about replacing my four year old Skoda Fabia. I'd like a city car/hatchback that is big enough for a child, is fun to drive and pretty reliable. I was contemplating a VW Golf but am put off by the price and reliability issues. Most people I speak to say I should go for a Japanese car. Any suggestions? BTW - as I live in a city I'd prefer automatic. Read more

You must've had a service manager who was willing to lie for you. In order to make a claim they need to state to the manufacturer that the car has a full history and if it's not been done by a dealer they need proof it's been done to their standards using manufacturer parts only. Either they've lied about this on your behalf or they've been under the impression that it has a dealer history. I've seen plenty of warranty claims rejected during many years in the trade because people didn't stick to dealer servicing and have recently encountered it with an old punter who bought a Kia Picanto he was told still had two years of warranty remaining but had a claim for a starter refused because he couldn't prove the servicing garage had used Kia parts/service items and followed their guidelines. You've been very lucky.

Young neighbour scratched my car while parking bumper has one deep and several smaller scratches. Mygarage said paint should be stripped off half bumper then new paint applied, cost 300 pounds. Neighbour has found garage offering to repair for 140 pounds. Can you advise -is it advisable to strip all paint off and if so should that cost 300 pounds? Thank you Read more

Well it is the metal part at the front on the right side above and below level of the headlught that is scratched.

Not long ago I'd never have contemplated buying a Kia. Very impressed by the Ceed, great looking car, should be many more on the roads. Wonder why not more.

Had one of the early Kia cee'ds and it provided a good value-for-money package - main problem ride quality - tended to be very firm.

Currently looking at the Kia Niro - once again, a good value-for-money hybrid compared to the Toyota Auris/Prius. Bit worried that Kia have launched it in Spain with an advertised 22% discount
