My Nextbase 412g lasted about 14 months and then just stopped working. Nextbase of course don't want to know so had to put it down to experience. Buying a Nextbase is a matter of luck it seems, at this price don't risk it. Have now bought a Mio which is in a different class. Read more
Hi all,
Does anyone know if you can simply change the rear indicators bulbs on a F20 2016 BMW 1 Series?
I'm a little annoyed at BMW, the front of the vehicle has LED indicators and headlights and the tail bars are LED but the rear indicators are not. Why BMW has done this I don't know. Their competitors (Audi A3 / Merc A Class) all have rear LED indicators! Why not BMW, it's not even an option!
Is there a simple and cost effective was around it?
Cheers,
Lee. Read more
Unfortunately with electronics on modern cars there is no "simple" modification .The lights are controlled and monitored through electronic modules and any alteration of the system can be enough to make the system throw a wobbly.Leave it alone.
Hi, my wife's car started to experience these symptoms about a year ago. They are now becoming more regular, I've been reading a lot about this but frankly, having just about the ability to change a tyre and an air filter, I'm a bit worried about gettng stung by a garage without getting sorted - will pay to resolve but money at a premium so keen to take a considered approach as we can't replace the car.
There is some context too. It appears to happen at around 2500/3000 revs and when I change gear (typically from 3 to 4 or 4 to 5) at around 50/60 mph. Car continues to drive but there is no turbo when it goes and then struggles on hills / inclines. The strange thing is that when we turn the engine off and back on again it just disappears - but it's now starting to happen every other day.... Read more

When manufacturers design the steering wheel/ column and it's mountings, do they take into consideration that some m**** might use the steering wheel to hoist their backside up off the seat thus putting 100kg of downforce on the wheel/column and mountings?
However, I doubt anyone would be able to put a 100kg downward force on a steering wheel. There aren't many people who weigh 100kg, and of those only very few (strongman contestants) would be capable of lifting their own weight with their arms. Even then, I'd doubt a strongman contestant could lift their bodyweight with their arms out in front of them.
The person did it easily, hands on top of wheel and elbows on the bottom of wheel, leaned forward and pulled up with upper arms, at which point I saw the top of the wheel move downwards by approx 2".
So my old car 110k the other day she just lost power and died. wouldn't start up again. its been gradually getting worse at starting in the morning.
It now will only start if i pump the fuel 'grenade' pump untill its hard and even then it will only run for a few seconds. there is a lot of air in the fuel lines to the fuel filter from the 'grenade' and also to the fuel pump from the fuel filter there is air. iv tried loosing the injectors and bleeding some fuel through and tightening them but no luck.... i will be spraying fairy liquid water on hoses to see.
I wouldn't recommend doing that. It's drawing air in, not pushing it out, so you won't see any bubbles. If you spray Fairy Liquid around the affected area it'll draw that in also and possibly make the problem worse. I can't imagine what a mixture of Fairy Liquid and diesel fuel will do to injectors, or if it would even combust.
Oh dear, don't they know it is illegal to stick anything (eg dashcams, mobile phones, satnavs etc) to the area of the windscreen that is swept by the wipers? Read more
Just returned from a few weeks work in Tunisia, and you can imagine the state of the cars over there.
One of note was an early mk3 Escort, bonnet held down with twine and an excess of corrosion (Due to the coastal location I suspect. I was shocked at the amount of rust as it is generally warm and dry), somehow still making its way down the highway under its own power.
Average mileage of the taxis was 500,000km, and most having at least an engine warning light showing. Dashboard light bingo winner was EML, brake, service and oil.
No cheating by listing cars already in the scrappy - most scrappys would have turned away some of these! Read more
Hyundai Accent with over 200k on the clock being used by a friends child as their first car.
Had been crashed in the front and rear side in 2 separate small accidents but was still going strong at the ripe old age of 12.
Hi Can anyone help. I have seen similar posts, but dont think they are exactly the same issue. About 3 months ago, my 2002 V6 Tdi just stoped when I went to go out again. The car had been driven fine all morning, but came home for some lunch. Started it after lunch, drove down the road about 100 yards and it just cut out. Left it for about 2 hours and it started and ran fine after that. A week later, it did exactly the same thing. Lent it to my VW mechanic, great mate of mine and he had it for a month, driving to and from work, no problem and he could not find any fault codes, when he came to pick it up.
He obviously didnt drive the car during the day, so it did not replicate the fault, because he wasnt getting back into it soon after stopping. IE he was driving to work and then driving home in the evening, which gave it time to cool down. Got it back, drove it for a few days. Parked in a car park, went off for about half an hour, came back, drove about 100 yards and it packed up. AA came, it started, but then stopped immediately, fault code for Engine speed crank shaft sensor. Took it to my VW mate, new sensor the next day, drove it for a week. Parked in a car park, came back about 45 minutes later. Started it up and then it cut out.... Read more
OK Thank you, I will discuss with Mike and see what he suggests.
I still cant help wondering, why this only happens after the car has run for about an hour and been left for half an hour or so. It never happens during a journey, only when re started and then within the first couple of minutes of re starting.
Is it possible to test my battery with a professional battery tester whilst the battery is in situ. I am concerned about damaging any ECU s etc.
And if it needs changing what is the best method of bridging the voltage to prevent the radi losing its code? Read more
Even easier is to leave the car for a few days (preferably during a cold spell). When you start it does it struggle and crank slowly? Also, look at the dash warning lights, if they dim appreciably during cranking then the battery is weak and ready for replacement. Occasionally batteries fail unpredictably but if you know what to look for with these 2 methods then there's a good chance you will not be caught out. Interestingly, the capacity of the battery can be substantially reduced due to age and it will still start the car, but you will be stranded if you leave an interior light on overnight. I left the sidelights on once by mistake for a few hours and that was enough. After I replaced the battery I tested it and it was only storing 4Ah, but it would still start the car!

Similar thing happened to a relative when he sold a car recently which overheated when the new owner drove it home. The full cost was returned together with the cost of the return rail ticket. So speak to the seller as soon as you can. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Actually, it does run on 5v/USB power. That's why it works when plugged into a PC. When installed in a vehicle you are using a 12v - 5v convertor. In theory, Nextbase could supply a 4m long USB lead as well as the 4m lead with cigarette socket adaptor but dash cams really do need to be hardwired so you don't have to remember to plug it in when you drive. (A lot of 12v power sockets remain live even with ignition turned off). And if you don't want to hard wire the dash cam a cigarette socket adapter maybe harder wearing than a USB plug. There may also be better electronics in Nextbase's power leads than some cheap USB power adapters.
Using an external power supply helps keeps costs down and is MUCH more practical than having to worry about charging built in batteries.
(I also have a Contour Roam 2 helmet/action camera which I used when working as a motorcycle courier. This had upto 3 hours battery life but obviously couldn't leave it switched on all day - which made it not very practical for all day riding).
