Forum Best SUV?

I am looking to upgrade to an SUV. I've recently driven the new Hyundai Tucson and really liked it. Can anyone recommend something similar in height and type but maybe a little less long and a bit more 'go'? Also something that has a good reputation? Thanks Read more

Splitting hairs, there's a difference betwen SUV and CUV/crossover - you need to define what it is you need, eg ground clearance, 4wd, high seating position, etc - many crossovers have 2wd and little extra ground clearance over conventional cars, but that's what a lot of customers want.

There has been much written on this forum about older cars being a money pit. How new do backroomers feel buyers need to go to avoid to a 'money pit'? Read more

The EPB could perhaps go back to manual - Vauxhall did this on the last Astra. However the current Magic Seats are dependent on the shape of the floor pan and the positioning of the fuel tank under the front seats so it would be a major re-engineering job to introduce to the new model now.

Audi are only a dressed up VW. I certainly dont regard them as premium. RWD cars are perfectly usable in snow and ice, as long as you take the time to learn to drive in those conditions, and have good tyres, preferable winter tyres.

Hi, question on mpg on new cars. Is it true you need to run it in for a 1000 miles or so before getting a correct mpg reading. The car is supposed to get 76mpg but I'm only getting 50mpg. I've read that there is a run in period before the computer adjusts and gives an accurate reading. And if not, and this is the true reading is there anything In complaining and returning the car on the basis of misleading figures? I know you never get what they claim to be the mpg but I wasn't expecting a 30% difference.

Thanks in advance Read more

The MPG in our diesel Kia Ceed continued to improve until it hit 20,000 miles and then settled.

The mpg in my Leon TSi has been pretty consistent since day one....

I am posting this in this forum as the Classics one seems very quiet but if a moderator feels it appropriate to move it I have no objections. The classic press make much of increasing values, particularly prestige makes and Fords, but I am now starting to think that, for mainstream cars, this really only applies to concours or very low mileage cars in exceptional condition. Having too many projects I decided some months ago that I should reduce my hoard and tried selling two cars. The first attracted only one person who I subsequently decided was just a “car spotter” looking to add limited editions to his notebook. I have now decided to keep the car in the short/medium term. The second, though, is a Mk II Escort which does need quite a bit of bodywork. So far one derisory offer and another person who said I had undervalued it but that it was not for him. How do you value a classic? I used a forum and a club to set values. Obviously Ebay is an option but it is not a medium I like...

Just driven 675 miles in two days up and down England and Wales, mostly on motorways, with several sections with variable and average speed limits. All I would say is that in a car with a speed limiter it is easy. Just set the limiter at say 2mph over the limit and drive with your foot firmly pressed. Economy is great, you won't get booked, nor get in the way of people behind.

I do see some people drive at well over the posted limit and wonder what planet they are on. I can understand on a dry, quiet stretch of road with no obvious cameras, but in a section patrolled by average speed cameras, it makes no sense at all....
