The car has an intermittent fault, stuttering, got the diag tool and comes up with P0192 fuel rail pressure sensor A circuit low.

Can purchase a replacement but wondering if this is a DIY job. Seraching the net, I read you can depressurise the rail by unplugging a fuse and let the engine die off...not sure of that one.... Read more

As I and many others have said, fault codes are only a rough guide .You can't fix cars by these alone.A car that has run out of fuel would likely flag the same fault code.So ,would you change the rail pressure sensor if the tank had no diesel in it ?As this is the Ford/Psa engine, the first thing I would change would be the fuel filter.

I am looking around to replace my 40 year old 12v 6v halfords charger with a modern compact battery conditioner that will deliver a 12v and 6v charge and has a plug in hook up facility.

I am surprised how very expensive some of them are eg £60 upwards and that they are only 12v. I have come across a brand called "Maypole" specifically model MP7423 12v 6v. Seems a reasonable price wwhen compared to the rest of the market and its duel voltage, with plug in hook up... Read more

thank you for the genius suggestion. I am giving this some thought

my options are limited because I need 12v 6v option ( 6v for a classic motorcycle)...

The radio push button on the widescreen display monitor has stopped working. The Monitor is still working with Sat Nav, Computer info. I have checked the 3 radio fuses (1 front-2 rear) and all ok. Has anyone had similar problems, is it a known problem, easy fix or will I need a new monitor? Read more

Electronics on modern cars are very voltage sensitive. So any slight dip/glitch in a power supply to a consumer can cause it to throw a wobbly or lock out.

I have bought 2 new cars through Carfile and my father bought 1. On all occasions the price was very good there was no hassle and we collected the cars from the main dealers in the midlands.

My son has just brough a new car from Broadspeed as he said that they had the lowest price. However, the transaction did seem to drag on a bit and I got the impression that the customer care was second to Carfile.... Read more

One broker who is featured on this site's 'Cars for Sale' (new section) seems to get a very bad rep for flogging pre-reged/owned cars as new - I read some reviews that gave them in a very poor light - some people even being flogged what were obviously either hire cars or dealership pre-reg demonstrators/pool cars as brand new and has been said, been actually pre-owned for over 6 months or that the V5C form takes many months to arrive, whereby they 'owner' finds they weren't (in law) the owner at all during that period and are the second owner as well.

I won't name them (best to just Google each of the ones on the list with 'reviews' and see for yourself) for obvious reasons (we're not allowed to 'name and shame' here anyway), but it has certainly made me much more wary of going the broker route, even if you can get really decent discounts, at least on the face of it (for cars I'm looking at, 20% off list price, some even near 40%!!!)....

Could be a European thing - drive an Auris hybrid in Spain, and a couple of months ago an official "ECO" sticker, complete with registration number, arrived in the post from the Traffic department. The accompanying letter noted "this will entitle me to enjoy the benefits or incentives provided at all times, whether in the tax area, in mobility, regulation of parking, etc."

Haven't seen any references to it in the local newspapers, but obviously something is in preparation

Because Ford had the patent and didn't allow any other manufacturer to supply it.

Ford were happy to licence it's use - but few wanted to pay the fee....

Question regarding tyre swapping on an AWD car. Yes, swapping front-to-rear on the same side will even tyre wear, but then, at some point, you will have four very worn tyres. Many (if not most) AWD cars have a front-drive bias (even Land Rovers wear the fronts more) so while this works fine for the first 50% or so of tread life, I find it a bit disconcerting to continue white-knuclking down to the legal limit on wear - especially should winter arrive as the tyre lifespan is ending.

Tyre manufacturers recommend that if you replace only two tyres on a car, you do the rears. This is because they feel the average driver can handle understeer better than oversteer. You may make your own decisions. However, once tyres are 50% worn, I tend to leave them as is and then replace one axle pair as per recommendations. This then gives me another year of motoring with two "new" and two older tyres (all well within legal limits). If I keep the car (as this is by then a consideration) I may replace the second set a bit early. Still softens the blow to the budget a bit. Read more

We purchased a new Tiguan in December last year and VW have written to us offering to extend the AA breakdown cover for £89 for one year or £145 for two years.

I've never had breakdown cover before (never needed it - lucky I guess) so have little idea if this represents good value for money or not.... Read more

I am on a really good deal with Honda which makes the VW deal look expensive.

If you have your Honda serviced by franchised dealers, they provide free breakdown cover (under the Honda name but subbed out to one of the majors, not sure which). This includes Roadside and Recovery. I also get free MOTs if I use their servicing although I am not sure this applies to current sales and may have been an offer when I bought the car.

While I appreciate that nothing is truly free I am currently enjoying these benefits under a four year service deal that was only £580. Also this includes annual oil changes and Scheduled brake fluid changes. HJ cautions is not the case with all manufacturers' schemes.

Even when the four year year deal is up the MOT and breakdown cover is still free if I use their servicing. For older cars that is £155 for a minor and £255 for a major service.

Factoring in the MOT and breakdown cover we pay more than that for our Corsa at our excellent indie.
