My 1997 Nissan Almera has suddenly developed a fault. The front wipers and front washer jet have stopped working but the rear washer jet still works.
I've checked the fuses and they are fine - I suspect it's not the motor because the washer jet stopped working at the same time. ... Read more

Modern thinking suggests you should always fit new tyres on the rear.
I presume this is because the 'powers that be' consider most drivers can't handle oversteer....
I'm sure you get this on here a lot.

Funny one this-When perusing the MOT history site GOV.UK for suitable cars I've spotted for sale on Autotrader or elsewhere-I constantly see the MOT advisory-"Engine covers obscuring some components". What is the tester looking for here? Are the engine covers at fault/illegal ? if it's that important for the tester to look underneath why wern't the covers removed( and hence replaced after inspection). Read more
It is just routine, indicates that the car has a panel and may hinder their inspection somewhat.
A MOT is fairly basic and checks safety related items only, it is of utterly no use with regards to how well maintained or what sort of condition a vehicle might be in.
Was checking/ blowing up all the tyres on my new car today. I note the steel spare wheel has got the 50mph warning sticker on it. The tyre is identical to those on my alloy wheels.
Am I committing an offence if I drive more than 50mph on it? I do understand it would be if the tyre was a different size. Could I legitimately remove the sticker? Read more
Bought a new Mondeo in 2002 which came with a full sized steel spare complete with a Pirelli identical to the other 4 and a 50mph sticker. Asked dealer why and surprise surprise, he had no idea. He did refer it to Ford who came back and said that although the steel spare was dimentionally identical it was a lighter construction than a normal steel wheel and was not rated for speeds over 50mph.
So I visited a local dismantling yard and bought an alloy off a recent right off (back wheel off a car fire damaged by faulty phone wiring) fitted the tyre off the steel spare and guess what, never used it.

Are you sure that all the fuses have been checked? There is probably more than one fuse box on these. One in the engine bay and one in the cabin.
