Experiencing this very same problem with my wife's Astra J 1.6 Sports Tourer. The thing is unpleasant to drive after about 10 miles when warmed up. if you lay off the accelerator it jerks badly, juddery when engaging the clutch and lacks power under acceleration to the point of it being dangerous. The old Astra G 1.6 8v it replaced felt more sparky.

It's showing no codes, I have cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced the plugs. Dealership can't seem to fault it. Lots of people seem to have reported exactly the same problem, but there seems to be no definitive fix, this thread has had over 17,000 views. I realise it's no rocketship but no way does it feel like a 115hp car....

I know that Motorpoint asking prices are low and I have heard non negotiable, are their PX prices similarly low. Read more

Thanks to everyone who replied. I now have an update on this.

Having obtained the registration number I contacted my local Audi dealer's service department and asked if they could confirm whether this car was UK supplied and who was the supplying dealer. They confirmed that it was UK supplied and gave me the name of the dealer. I then rang their service department and they told me that it had been registered at the end of March this year and had remained with them as a pre-reg for some time until they eventually shipped it out to British Car Auctions from whom Motorpoint must have purchased it....

I've got a brand new Transit Custom on hire.

Can I hell as like find the wing mirror adjuster. The manual says it should be on the drivers door near the window control, but there's nothing. Been looking in the cab for half an hour now lol.

There isn't even a manual way to adjust the mirrors.

Can anyone with the same van help? Read more

Someone is asking exactly the same question on Digital Spy.

My wife owns a 2013 VW Move Up which we bought second hand last November.

We have twice taken the vehicle back to the local dealer to investigate a noisy transmission and an inability to select first or second gear after the vehicle has been left a couple of days.

After the first visit, the dealer explained that the noises was a "characteristic" of the vehicle and the problem with the selection could be that we weren't depressing the clutch for long enough.... Read more

My parents had the same gear selection issue (when cold) with a VW UP!, which they bought new in 2012.

After reading of others owners having the same problem and being unable to get it resolved. They decided the solution was to trade it in for a 1 Litre Hyundai i10. This solution worked perfectly....

There is much discussion here and elsewhere on the reliability (or not) of turbochargers in cars. Many people appear afraid of turbo cars because they hear horror stories about expensive turbo failure. My own observations suggest that most owners do not understand turbos and often drive in a mechanically unsympathetic way (often for both turbo and engine generally).... Read more

Excellent summary.

May I add something regarding the Ford/PSA 1.6 TDCi / DV6 engines? For some years these very common engines were lubricated the turbo with oil that did not pass through the engine's oil filter, just through a tiny gauze strainer. These strainers are very prone to clogging up but are not easily accessible to inspect....

My step-son bought this car from a well known car supermarket one year ago.

He had only gone about 500 yards from the dealer and the turbo blew. At that point I would have handed the car back and walked away but he wanted the car so they reluctantly replaced the turbo for him. He didn't buy their warranty as he couldn't afford the £400 they wanted for one year.... Read more

“My favourite has the be the Mk3 Cavalier and would like to have one again if I had the space for a second car”

I loved selling these in the 90’s. Well made and mechanically simple. No fears if a timing belt failed as the 8v petrols were all non-interference so slap on a new one, reset the timing and off you went. The 2.0 injection was a great all-rounder but even the basic 1.4 could nip along.

The reason the doors lock then unlock,is because the electronics of the cdl system are "seeing" an open door. This is often caused by a fault to the latch or wiring to the back doors.

esterday-in drenching rain-went to supermarket with the Mrs…..took a ticket as we went in the car park—and guess what—the blinking front drivers window of my Audi stuck DOWN and would not go up……grrrrr….grrrrr....

Wife went into shop—whilst i grappled with the options….I looked up on You Tube what to do if car window does not RAISE!….there were several options—but the one that sort of worked for me was...

1) Hold on to the pull up switch—then slam the front door HARD at the same time….there was a crunching horrible sound—but it raised again—THANKFULLY,since i was getting wet.
2) Took it later to local garage where it is booked in nxt week for a new winding up mechanism-behind the front door. Meanwhile wife and I must remember not to lower the front window ‘cos it won’t raise again!

Nice friendly mechanic said—"these window mechanisms are "always breaking on Golfs and Audi’s…..I guess it’s inevitable that what with taking tickets in car parks and adjusting/ the wing mirrors etc they get a lot of use….."

Thank God I got the wretched window to raise —since a parked car with a window which won’t raise is effectively a tasty find for a thief and is thus a vehicle which is immobile…

And thank you YouTube for video “help” options.
Is it only Golfs/Audis that have this window weak spot?

Anyone had any experiance using CostCo Auto to buy a new car?

I see that CostCo put you in touch with a vetted dealer who is meant to offer specially negotiated prices but I am wondering how "special" they are likely to be. Read more

Very negative.

Limited marques had deals set up but tried with Audi. Contacts set up to be told by a bored Audi salesman to shop about and come back to us last. No further contact.

I returned from a two week holiday and my 2014 Qashqai would not start due to a flat battery and I had to charge it with a Smart charger. It is booked in with a main dealer for checking. I do mainly short journeys but with one fifty mile motorway round trip per week. I naver use the Stop Start function.

This failure has happened three times since I bought the car. Is there a known battery/charging fault with this car ? How should I proceed ? Read more
