Hi there
I'm hoping someone might be able to help...
My 2009 5-door Hyundai i20 had its annual MOT and service. The MOT came back with an advisory note:
"001 Brake pad(s) wearing thin, front [3.5.1g]"
The garage did phone and notify me (saying the pads were "at 90%" -- whatever that means) and was going to charge £108 to replace the front pads, but I declined at the time.
My car only has 24,000 miles on it (mostly urban driving) -- and I *think* I'm a fairly easy driver. Not heavy.
Before the service there was some occasional squeaking (seeming to come from the rear, mostly after a 3-point turn or after starting from cold), but that seems to have gone now.
Just wondering...
Am I dicing with death by ignoring the advisory note. Would YOU get the 2 front pads replace? If so, what would you expect to pay, roughly?
Would be grateful for any help. Thanks so much. Read more
How can a 50 Amp hour Optima Red Top RTS 4.2 battery out perform my 140 Amp hour traditional lead acid battery and still deliver 1000 CCA over my existing battery's 720 CCA considering it is half the size?

CCA and Ah aren't necessarily related - although for any one type of battery they are.
Even within the various sub-types of basic lead-acid, there's big variations from car starter, through leisure and marine onto traction batteries - as the internal structure is different to give either good CCA for short periods, high Ah for long periods or compromises in between....
2004 VW Touran Diesel Estate 2.0 TDI PD Sport 5dr - 6 gear Manual Transmission - Difficulty Shifting When Cold
The problem suddenly started on a Monday morning about a month ago. I tried all possible ways but the gears were so stiff I could not shift at all. After leaving the engine running for about 15 minutes I've managed to shift the gears. Since then it’s now happening on every morning. I think the problem is getting worst now. ... Read more
If you can select gears OK with the engine off then you have a clutch drag problem. Where is the bite point on the clutch pedal.
You hay have a failing Dual Mass Flywheel....
Hello, how easy is it to replace the pathetic horn on my above car? Do I have to be careful which I buy and will it be compatible with the electrics/ECU? Many thanks! Read more
smartclub is the place for info. Plenty of owners have them upgraded.
hi i have a rattle on the front of my td5 that to the naked ear sounds like a pulley rattle and when aircon is turned on the rattle disapears until it goes off or when given small amount of revs so i took off the aux belt to see if the rattle disapeared but instead it turned into like a bell ringing sound. it still starts and drives fine and still pulls like a train accelarating very well

Here is another incidence of a fatal accident, they think caused by not putting on the parking brake. Does anybody know whether the vehicle had a handbrake or an electric parking brake ?

That's comforting. All credit to Land Rover (P.Charlton's post above) for thinking that one out for themselves without there having to be an accident first.
While my car is being assessed...could be write off...by a considerable piece of furtune I have an S class as a courtesy car and thought I'd share the experience. The handling is brilliant and you feel no bumps, the switchgear is all beautifully placed and it cruises so smoothly from the comfort of the driver's armchair. The sat nav is like a little TV and the 350 diesel engine is for huge car very frugal. whe you close the doors there is a satisfying clunk and the boot is huge. It would take a long time to know what all the command functions are and to use the paddles. However basic driving is a doddle and you don't feel to be taking up the whole road. Sadly for me the courtesy car company will soon collect their S class and give me the more usual hatchback. Still having the car for for Father's day was was excellent.

A second opinion from a good independant (not a quick-fit type place) will probably set you mind at rest.
