Hi All,

Am I the only person who is annoyed that so many of the above events now require advance payment ? I understand that there will probably be many obvious administrative advantages for the organisers, but the major issue for me against pre booking is that ever more frequently nowadays when tickets are sold weeks or months beforehand, come the day in question it will likely be chucking it down with rain, and who wants to drive a classic car in the rain to what is probably a rain soaked muddy field ?
When these type of events cost forty or fifty quid whatever per head that's a lot of money to have to write off because it is raining ! Read more
Forgot to say, under 14s are free.
It's a very welcome addition, thanks! Read more
I have a grand scenic 2 and I've noticed a small leak behind the glove box on the passenger side. It's only a tiny leak but a leak nonetheless! I'm no mechanic but am looking for any answers which would be greatly received. I hear of blockage problems with water that filters out near your tyres but water is flowing through that OK, well it appears to be but I will check that area out at some point in better detail. Not sure if this is linked but my windows condensate when I put the blowers on. Could this be my cabin filter causing this and could it be linked to my tiny leakage problem from behind the glove box as I think the filter is around that area?
Many thanks :-) Read more
Ok.so it's not the ac.It is possibly coming from under the plastic scuttle panel where the wipers are, under the bonnet.Very likely that the rain runoff drain hole is blocked.
Does anyone know what a orange yellow circle with a "i" in it on the dashboard means. Its above the red P for parked gear is shown.
Appreciate any advise.... Read more
Yes--it's usually something simple!...but what get's me is that if it's something serious-you either worry or rarely have any time to do anything about it anyway!
The only two red lights i find useful are the ignition light untill the engine turns, a little spanner light showing if a service is due and a blue beam if the headlights are switched on full ....
I am going to test drive a VW Golf Plus SE 1400 TSI 2008 petrol with 61,000 miles on the clock - full service history and 2 owners.
I have a vague memory of a mechanic once advising to avoid TSI engines potentially expensive repairs. However, not sure and I would value any comments for or against the car. Hoping to be well informed before going. Read more
Main dealer has confirmed it is the 2009 engine, alloys etc. Detailed service record, bills for work, two owners.
Are there any big jobs which will come up in service schedule ? I have tried to find schedules myself on internet but not come up with anything....
We were hit today by a van belonging to a large company, windy narrow country road, came round blind corner onto a long sraight section. Transit sized van coming at speed towards us, we stop expecting the van to do the same...no he just smacks straight into us even though he had time to stop. Our car is in a bit of a mess and so is his van...he admitted liability to three of us and the insurance people are on to it. Can he retract the liability admission? also have peolpe from a car in front who will testify that the van nearly did the same to them only they had a layby to escape into. Interestingly the airbags didn't deploy, apparently if a car is stationary they don't go off. Read more
Airbags only go off if the car is moving above a certain speed (8mph-14mph
Not so. The SRS system takes information from several accelerometers placed strategically around the car. These measure the acceleration at those points of fit. By comparing the acceleration data from the different sensors the SRS system can determine the direction and severity of the accident and work out the sequence of airbag deployments required (if any) and whether both stages of two stage bags is required. If you are stationary, with ignition on the airbags will go off if you are hit hard enough in a direction that requires them (a side impact being the most obvious).
Hi,
I wonder if anyone here can help me please.... Read more
I still think if you told us what car it is and what milage we would be able to tell you whether the mpg is accepable. Then we could advise you what to do next.
Some people get 60+mpg on a 1.9 Golf; I don't, I get neare 45mpg, but it is my fault for pressing the peddle too hard....
I am thinking of buying a cat C car.
How much in % terms does it knock off the value of a two year old car which has been a C. It is below " book price" and I and wondering if it is the right price considering.... Read more
The general rule for Cat D is 20-25% off the normal price. It should be noted that war
Cat C ... 40-50% off normal price....
Whilst the video is about job vacancy it does give an idea what happens with speed camera van and subsequent backroom admin.
Though it might be of a bit of interest.... Read more

Firstly, the 1.6 ford/Peugeot engines did have a bad history of turbo failures, but very often due to poor or lack of maintenance. The 1.8 is the old Lynx 8 valve engine which is a descendant of the same engine you would find in a 20 year old Escort van. This engine is very durable but not particularly refined. All Ford diesels after 2008 will have a dpf and dual mass flywheel. These have not been too much trouble.Few electrical gremlins can occur, but often the result of a poor battery. If you are going to use it for towing, you would better with the 2.0 engine.
