Bought a new CX-3 1.5d SE Nav at the end of April 2016.
Great car & spec etc........but the flashing DPF light keeps coming on.
It happened the first time with less than 500 miles on the clock & continues to be a BIG problem.
It happens on a long run on motorway journeys.
Mazda Oxford had it in for an afternoon to fix the problem.....then it happened again & again.....then Mazda Oxford had it again for 6 days to sort the problem out again.
On a long run from Oxfordshire to Derbyshire it happened again today (June 12th) .....for the seventh time !!

Thinking of rejecting the car as "not fit for purpose'... Read more

Hi there,

I'm from Portugal and i have a new Mazda 3 HB with the same 1.5 skyactiv D engine.

The car have now 1 month old and the DPF light appears first time at my first 850 kms at the highway. It goest to the Mazda dealer and after one day, the car seems ok.

At the 1900kms the light came again and the car stills now again in Mazda dealer, but they dont find any problem, there are no errors registered at the ECU.

Did your problem have been solved yet?

Thanks in advance.
Best Regards.

I have never had problems charging my phone when camping with the car, as previously the 12v power socket was permantly live. However, now I have moved to a new Honda Jazz, I find that, in common with quite a few other cars, the power socket is only live when a key is left in the ignition.

Does anyone know if it is practical to rewire the power socket to be permanently live, or is there another way of charging the phone when the key cannot be left in the car. Read more

There are several 1% cashback cards, so you are forgoing the 1% cashback in order to get your points so it is costing you something.

I'm sure you must be right. Tesco only give 1 Clubcard point per £2 spent and a £1 voucher per 100 points, so each £1 voucher takes £200 spend (at an outlet other than Tesco). So, a 0.5% cashback equivalent. I see your point....

So--there will be no exit poll after the voting has finished on 23/6 due to there being no previous precedent. The Electoral Commison's earliest estimate of a nationwide result will come in around 07.00am the next morning.

So why pray is the media getting all excited by shifts of so called "polled public opinion" ( "Brexit in the lead/Remain in the lead?) when it is clearly pure conjecture? Read more

My Berlingo has pretty much been the ideal vehicle for my needs - I'm a tradesman, it swallows all my tools and can be used as a car when needed.

A few faults are starting to occur now so I am sadly looking into replacement vehicles.... Read more

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on your new car.

Thanks - wasn't sure there'd be much interest in a 13 year old motor!...

In response to a recent query you wrote: "If you can find a 2009 or 2010 with a chain cam diesel engine that doesn't have a diesel particulate filter then that could be your best bet. KIA cee'd 1.6CRDI SW or Hyundai i30 1.6CRDI SW both delayed fitting DPFs until they absolutely had to. In the future, such cars may be banned from any city centres, but you wrote A road and country lane driving so that should not be a concern"

Could you please explain why DPF's are such a bad thing. In view of the latest reports on diesel pollution you would think that these were very worth while.... Read more

Do you still really need an estate car (large amount of loads being moved around, etc), as this could limit you a bit to what you can go for. Diesel is fine if (as you say) you do a reasonable amount of out-of-town driving, but really if in addition its lugging really heavy loads around (not just people and a some stuff in the boot) and for annual mileages at least over 15k miles a year, prefereably over 20k miles.

Modern diesels don't like regular short journeys and will lead to poor (and expensive to fix) reliability problems, as they rely on lots of technology to duck under (in theory, now with the VAG scandal perhaps not in practice without possibly sacrificing performance and/or mpg) the emissions regulations, which appear not to work well/be susceptible to issues when driven in this way....

LIKE CYD.. I have access to old friends who were in various roles at Rover JLR and Lotus..

And I am very grateful for the advice and a lot of help over the years, including finding hard to get parts for myself and previous customers.

What would be the difference in damage from an oil loss causing the engine to stop and oil over fill. initial inspection from taking the sump off is a bent con rod. The head has not been removed as yet.

Would their be obvious damage shown when the head is removed to the engine to show the car ran with very low oil until it cut out.???Due leaking oil from a pipe under pressure. Read more

craig-pd130

If the engine failure was caused by low oil levels, there could well be evident signs of wear in the valve gear, especially the camshaft bearings, cam lobes and followers / buckets. These parts are furthest from the oil pump, and will wear the fastest if the oil level drops so low that oil pressure cannot be maintained.

Things to look for are score marks on the cam bearing journals, wear or 'blueing' on the cam lobes through the case-hardening, and the same on the followers....

You'd never regret buying the estate. Look at both a saloon and estate. That version of the A4 is regarded by Audi fans as one of the best ever made. A mate is on his second estate.
