Not bad!!

I got fed up with price going way more than inflation on my RAC (home/roadside with full 'no claims') cover and threatened to leave/played them against the other providers and got 1/3rd+ off the renewal price. Makes you wonder what they think of the non-switchers/hagglers (mugs?), rather than what they used to be (valued long-term customers who'd get reduced prices for loyalty [no advertising/customer services required to keep their business/arrange new accounts]).

I think that many firms value customer loyalty very low rather than new customers' £££, presumably thinking once they're 'on the hook' with the intial 'sweetner' deal, they can ramp up the prices in following years because the customer (eventually) can't be bothered to keep switching. A few still value loyalty, though less and less each year. A sad indictment on modern society.

By a Honda? No need then!

Buy a Honda? No need then!

So ugly is the civic that I would have a breakdown..

For £18 a year that is cheap peace of mind even with the balance of my 7 year warranty...

I suppose the difference is I'd rather buy a car that doesn't break down, rather than have cover to repair it at the roadside etc when it does...

Thanks for the 'u' (by --> buy) btw.

There is no such thing as any make or model of car that can be guaranteed never to break down. Not even your fabled Japanese ones. Even brand new cars usually come with rescue cover.

Back to topic, I buy my family level RAC cover using Tesco Clubcard points every year. So in essence, it costs us nothing. And I believe Topcashback do cover with cashback, but don't know which organisation.

It cost you the added amount you're paying on groceries or however else you get the points.

you think so, eh?

It just so happens we have a Tesco Bank Mastercard. Whatever we buy, from wherever, we use the card to pay and earn points for doing so. Asda,, Lidl, Shell, the local butchers, hairdresser, eBay, everywhere. The balance is cleared every month. We also find O2 to offer the best signal generally across our area and so all four of us have a Tesco Mobile phone. More points earned.

So, according to my maths, my annual RAC membership and next weekends family ticket to Thorpe Park and last years excursion into Blackpool Tower have cost us .... well, exactly NOTHING.

If you read this OldRoverBoy, you were so right! Everybody knows everything! Everything and nothing, that is.

There is no need for calling people names, and I'm afraid you're not quite as clever as you think you are. There are multiple cashback credit cards, the Tesco card isn't the only one. There are several 1% cashback cards, so you are forgoing the 1% cashback in order to get your points so it is costing you something.

I'm sure you must be right. Tesco only give 1 Clubcard point per £2 spent and a £1 voucher per 100 points, so each £1 voucher takes £200 spend (at an outlet other than Tesco). So, a 0.5% cashback equivalent. I see your point.

Then Tesco only give you 4x face value if you trade your vouchers for "Deals" (such as days out or RAC membership). So now we're getting 2% cashback equivalent.

Then to really rub salt into the wounds Tesco only give us 1 1/2 points for every £1 spent in Tesco outlets. I reckon about 20% of our monthly spend is at Tesco in some form, so by my rusty maths I reckon we're now up to about 3.2% cashback equivalent.

But it's so blindingly obvious we'd be better off with a 1% cash back card I can't imagine why I didn't see it before.

I did the same Andy, I called them and said that as I'd never called them out I should be getting a better price than a new customer. They immediately reduced the price and it's been the same price to the penny for the last 5 years or so.

There is no such thing as customer loyalty anymore, they see us as lazy mugs that can't be bothered to look elsewhere for a better price.
