Don't feel too sorry for me but while my Volvo is being fixed the only car the hire company had was a New 350 diesel S Class...their Fiestas were all out. Is there anyway to disable the stop start, there is no button I can find.

Wonder if anyone has some experience with the problem I'm having and provide the best place to look for faults that may be causing this.

Have a 2003 Seat Leon S 1.6 16v petrol, which won't regularly won't start. Seems worse on wet/damp days. Put in the key and a horrible whining starts coming from the engine. Turn the key to turn the engine and it just goes but doesn't fire up. When it does fire, it normally cuts straight back out a few times, then the engine starts and idles around 2-300 revs then cuts out. Finally, if it starts, it will again idle at 2-300 and the accelerator won't work, then finally shoots up to about 1k revs and goes.... Read more

Checked and showed higher temps than actual temp of engine. Replaced and so far no problems. Cheers for the advice all

When I start my engine from cold the noise emitted from the engine sounds like a noisy fan sometimes accompanied by a muffled tappet sound. This only lasts for upto 20 seconds then dissapears. Sometimes it also sounds like a damaged belt. This sound only occurs perhaps every 80% of start ups. The car is only 5 months old with a mileage of 3000. Any idears ? Read more

Hi All!

I am expecting my first child in a few months and the lease on my Golf GTD will be ending soon after. I am looking at getting an estate car and I have about £15k to spend on it.... Read more

Happy Blue!

I have an E350CDi estate (2011). Bought it last November at 20,000 miles for £20,000. It is a superb car. The ride is very smooth and the power is inexhaustable, with the economy not at all bad for the size, weight and performance of the car. We have three kids and we go to the airport fairly frequently without being embarrased by a roof box.

My wife and I spent a day looking at premium cars before I decided on the E-Class. It was a simple decision. The Audi and BMW interiors were just the wrong shape and size for us (we are both 5'7" and not overweight). Happy to answer any questions you may have. ...

My 2008 diesel estate with 78k is in a sorry state after the bash. Bonnet badly buckled, off side wing concertined, bumper smashed, headlight disappeared and the power steering gone....that's what i know about. If it is written off obviously I get a derisory offer so what is the best course of action....liability admitted by other driver. Read more

Look on Autotrader.co.uk for actual market prices of cars of identical spec, year and mileage to yours and take screen-grabs so you have a record of them. Then you have a basis for arguing the true value of your car....

Dealer claims they have done a 90k service on my car and I am not convinced. No proof of the service. Would timing belt be inspected? Read more

I read that the Toyota cars for the next year will be equipped with all the safety features. This will be controversial. A lady wrote to the New Scientist magazine saying that her car is equipped with a feature that applies the brakes if there is a risk of colliding with the vehicle in front. Recently, she wrote, a bird flew in front of her car when she was travelling at speed and the car applied the brakes in an emergency manner. She asked what would have happened if there had been a lorry following her. Read more

And every 20 mph limit area outside a school should have speed cameras installed - but I've never seen one outside a school yet - which leads me to believe that they are not installed for reasons of road safety.

There's a policy not to install cameras in 20 limits as they're meant to be self-enforcing....

My daughter is named driver on my vehicle and has recently had accident in her own car. Do I have to report this to my company irrespective of her circumstances or will it do at next renewal application, please?

The accident will certainly be a he said she said affair, no witness and only bodywork. Read more

Yes you do and the fora by which insurers exchange information mean it is almost certain that, if they look, your insurer will be able to see some detail of the claim.

As an example, like you I have my daughter as a named driver. While seeking renewal quotes for my policy in January Admiral could see not only details of my own year old claim for damage by a car park barrier but also my daughter's history. And not just for my vehicle. They had information linking her to a claim in May 2014. That was nothing to with us. Her boyfriend, on who's car she was also a named driver, had been in a shunt outside his Uni digs. ...
