My son has owned one of these for a while and has been very pleased with it until recently. Now and again it just has no power for no reason at all. Performance can be normal and then all of a sudden on a journey the car is flat. There is no pattern to the fault and can occur at any time without warning. There are no dash warning lights when it occurs. It can happen and the car be like it for tens of miles. Any ideas friends? Read more

I own a Transoprter with the 1.9 tdi and the same PD injection sistem. Check an clean Your EGR valve. From what I've seen, if there's a problem with the egr it wil not show on the dash as a MIL ilumination. Usualy the problem wil disapear by restarting the engine, but will soon reapear.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor with Contact spray and only after removing it from the car. After that leave it to dry at least 30 minutes. In the time that You have removed the MAF untill puting it back o the car, do not insert keys in ignition or you will get a fault code amd most likely yout MAF will need recalibrated.

Had issues with the speed dial dropping to zero, diagnostic test showed a faulty speed sensor. I replaced this 6 months ago and everything was perfect until yesterday when the speed dial became erratic with the dreaded loss of power and the ------ ----- displayed again. In addition the engine management light is permenantly displayed on the dashboard. Everything else on the dashboard is working OK.Any ideas why this problem could reoccur?

Have been advised that the oil seal to the speed sensor has failed again, shorting the power circuit. Any advice on how to fix the oil seal? Read more

My sister had similar problem some years ago, display was faulty, known problem, there was a company that could fix rather than replace. I believe alternator was also a possible cause, contact problems I believe, try googling it

I used to use no 7 - the A1062 Potter Heigham to Hoverton road two or three times a week - I wouldn't call it a particularly quiet road - especially in the holiday months. Read more

My road is pretty quiet. But it is a cul-de-sac.

Just had a passenger front wheel bearing fitted for the MOT. Wife collects the car from the garage with 12 months MOT and the abs lights lit!!. (It wasn't lit before the MOT or before the wheel bearing was fitted!!). The garage agreed to take a look at it and have said their computer says there was an intermittent fault code for the abs sensor on the front passenger side but managed to clear it. But the light is still lit andf their computer is saying there is an open/short to ground fault in the sensor on the driver's side?. How can this be as all was OK until it went for the MOT and had the bearing fitted?. Is it a coincidence and should pay for a new sensor for the drivers side or am I being fobbed off by the garage because they have ballsed up by fitting the bearing the wrong way round or something?.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.... Read more

More likely they have damaged the sensor when replacing the bearing. The sensor should be removed beforehand, but usually they are impossible to remove due to corrosion.

Can anyone confirm what this pipe is referred to as please? If you look down on the focus engine it runs from the 'bar. that sits on top the radiator ( its the left hand side of the 2 pipes on the right hand side. The other end goes into the smaller port on the thermostat housing.... Read more

Wondering if anyone might have any views/advice/anything on the following...

I parked my car at the side of the road on Friday night and someone hit it. The car was parked legally, I was not in the vehicle and the other driver has accepted full responsibility. It was a 2015 plate Audi A3 and the garage reckon it may be a write off as the driver has actually pushed the front left tyre towards the back of the car but "can't confirm until we've informed the insurance companies". The other drivers insurance have paid for us to get a hire car until we either get a courtesy car from the garage repairing or until we settle negotiations if it's a write off. We have £20,200 outstanding on the finance and the value of the car when we purchased it (and added on all of our amazing extras!) was around £27,000. Has anyone ever had this sort of situation before? If your car was written off, did the other party's insurance pay off the remaining finance or should I expect to be offered a terrible settlement and have to pay off the remainder myself? I'm terrified that we're going to be majorly out of pocket :(

I'm insured through Diamond and the other driver through Admiral so it's being dealt with as an in-house claim. Not sure if that's better or worse but I'm not feeling very hopeful! Read more

As above, check your insurance policy here. Many insurance companies replace in the first year and at least two, do it for two years. NFU Mutual is one, but I can't recall who the other one is.

I have a 8 month-old VW Touareg, bought new, now done 7,000 miles. The panoramic sunroof has developed a leak and needs replacing. The dealer carrying out servicing/warranty work for me isn't the selling dealer - but they want to fit a complete re-manufactured sunroof under warranty.

At such a young age, do I have to accept a re-manufactured replacement or can I insist on a new component?... Read more

RT

I'd push VW to supply a new roof rather than a re-manufactured part. Explain to the dealer that you aren't happy for such a repair to be carried out to such a new vehicle (put this in writing, and explain that you want the reply in writing too), and ask them to take the matter up with VW GB (or just go direct to VW GB).

Regarding your last paragraph (CRA) I think you'll find you are wrong. The right to reject and obtain a refund only lasts for 6 months - and even within 6 months, cars are specifically listed as being subject to reductions in the refund amount for 'fair use'....
