Unless these roads were closed for long term road works there is no way the cars per year figure in the table are correct. The "quietest" road is showing less than a thousand cars a year, less than three cars a day. It's only a bit of fun but you wonder how someone can go to all the trouble of creating a graphic and article about figures and not even think about whether they are remotely possible.

Having driven the A897, top of the list, a few years back I can vouch for for it's lack of traffic - the road has very few signs of habitation and most tourists stick to the A9/A99/A836 either to get to John O'Groats (the naffest place on earth), they're doing the North Coast 500 or because they avoid single track like the plague.

Its a story based on a very basic data mining exercise.

The A897 is in the one area of Scotland I have never been - I'll get there one day!

The A 897 is so bendy (and quiet) that you tend to drive using a zoomed in sat nav! But beware of sheep - they ignore the cars completely and believe they have the right to be there, not ewe!

Satnav? You don't need one - there's only two junctions in it's 38 miles!

You do if you're in a hurry to catch the ferry at Scrabster!

You wouldn't use the A897 to get to Scrabster from any direction!
