You forgot to add. Go live in a country that has decent roads, and not the pot-holed, rough rubbish we're supposed to put up with. Read more

Of the new cars the most noticeable cars we don't get were the Renault Fluence, latest Clio estate - IMO, a good lokking car - perhaps we will yet get it. Now one I know we won't get, the new Espace and Initiale, a vehicle with great presence that looked extremely impressive. I think a grave mistake Renault chose not to sell it here. Read more
My wife took delivery of a built-to-order Focus last month and opted for the £250 built-in Sync2 sat nav,
Using it since, we have realised that the map software is at least a year behind. Our reference is a new road opened near us in June 2015 which did not appear on the maps supplied as new in October 2016.... Read more
The updating of maps seems to be a bit hit-and-miss. We've had three major roads opened in NW Spain in the last year or so. TomTom had two of them on their update (they supply 4 per year) issued a month after opening - the third took over a year to appear. Garmin (who seem to supply 3 updates per year recently) had all three about six months after opening.
On a more local level - our estate built about 12 years ago - appeared on TomTom after 3-4 years - Garmin after 10 years!
I'd like to add that you should keep an eye on the rear view mirror and when a car is behind you, turn off your rear fog light. If there is nothing behind you, turn it on again. Read more
No-one has mentioned the two most dangerous things that are occurring at the moment - 1) people driving in fog with NO lights on at all and 2) peoples who have cars with those daylight running lights, thinking that's sufficient in fog or even at night time - clearly have no idea that they are only on the front of their car, not the back, so they are invisible until you're almost upon them.
People with their fog lights on unnecessarily -v- people with no lights at all? I know which I'd prefer.

Hi.
Ihave a 2007 ford focus and am looking at replacing the factory stereo... Read more
The Sony factory radio is specifically made for Ford. You may find you also need a different power/audio patch lead .
Only trouble is, your car will have to be re-programmed so that the speedometer reads correctly - tried this with my Mondeo Estate only to be told by the Ford dealer that it would cost £75 for reprogramming - a procedure that would have to be repeated (at a cost of £75) when I change back to summer tyres. Obviously your not an experienced driver we have variable winters in the UK or haven't you noticed safety first cold and wet winter tyres beat summer ones hands down try it.9
I have found that lately I have been experiencing light skidding on uneven surfaces whilst driving. I have 4 good tread tyres with the correct pressure around. I am not experiencing issues when braking. I find that when I drive over a non-smooth section of road (small holes, grates, joins in tarmac etc) that the car feels like it skates/skids very slightly...it does this on dry surfaces. The car does not veer off the road and is no out of control...it is just a sensation that the car is not holding onto the surface as it should. The only other clues I can offer is that there is a slight knocking noise on the rear, nearside. There is no untoward lean in the car around bends and braking is even.
Things that come to mind (I'm no expert but over the years have become familiar with things to watch out for!) are anti-roll bar and bushes (could explain the knocking), engine mount (but I think I would experience issues when going round bends etc), tracking/balancing (symptoms feel too pronounced for slight tracking issues), shock absorbers, bearing(s).
Any ideas, or other tests I could perform to rule things in or out?
Many thanks! Read more
Had exactly the same with a Yaris. Tracking at front badly out due to kerbing. ATS are your friend... better than Kwikfit I found.
The difference in wet braking distance between a tyre worn to 3mm and one worn to 1.6mm can be as much as 44%. Key word being "as much", and not borne out of any tests that have occurred in the past 30 years - the braking distances quoted by the EU etc were trialled in the 80s!
Also I don't know what is so wrong with re-treaded tyres like King Meiler. They are fully tested and sold widely in Germany so the EU doesn't know what it's talking about! Have a look at the prices on King Meiler versus the non retreads. www.comparetyres.com/tyres/brands/king-meiler/ht2
