Looking at a replacement for my 2002 Toyota Yaris. This has an Insurance Group of 3.
If I look at a comparable small Mitsubishi Colt 1.1 CZ1, 2006ish, the Insurance group is 10.... Read more
>Groups don't necessarily mean higher premiums<
This doesn't sound logical. Surely a group 20 will cost more in premiums than a group 10?...
Hi, I've been looking at the MOT history of a car I'm interested in and it failed its last test with "Exhaust emits excessive level of metered smoke". It was retested after a couple of weeks and passed ok. I have never owned a diesel, so can anybody advise me on whether this could be the sign of something sinister? What should I look out for when going to view the car?
Thanks... Read more
...not as luxurious though ....
I saw this today and couldn't help laughing:
Brilliant
I was given a new phones as a present to replace Blackberry which was ageing - still worked as a phone but the apps did not.
Cannot pair new phone 6S with CRV Blutooth. Apple phone does not see Honda HFT (Hands Free Telephone) - pushed the buttons, watched video clips & I seem to be doing nothing wrong... Read more
Solved the problem.
I was looking in the wrong place for help/tips. I was looking at car sites, ICE sites etc...

Hi
I tried to enter a 7 digit postcde on my built in sat nav, and found that it would apparently only accept the first 4 digits, after which the keypad 'greyed out'. The manual merely says click on 'postcode' but gives no further details.... Read more

My car is 2.5 year old and within a few hundred miles of hitting 60k and thus out of warranty. So far I have had it serviced each time at the same main dealer and have had no issues.
Following advice here, I got an oil and filter change by a mate about 6k miles after the last service and plan to do that between service intervals from now on.... Read more
Thanks very much for the comprehensive response - makes a lot of good points.
I'll keep receipts for all parts fitted and hopefully have both a reliable car into the future and one that will have a value for someone else when I come to say good bye....
Was having a nostalgic (and concerned) window shop through the Rover section on auto trader. The numbers really are dwindling..
Anyhow I came across a Jap spec Rover mini. Its a grey import, and they've somehow fitted aircon into it as well as being automatic. Anyone else a bit impressed at the packaging?!... Read more
I was very tempted by one particular Merc W124 E500, V8 W124's are LHD only, ex Japan, one particular London based importer brings a few of these in now and again, it was a lovely example and at the time, about 3 years ago priced very well, much less than being asked now for cars in nothing like that condition.
No salt in Japan and quite often in their adverts you see high quality pics of vehicle undersides, something you never see in a Brit advert, invariably the cars even at 10/15+ years old are still virtually as new underneath.
I will be going to the NEC in Birmingham later this week and the train is a better option than the car due to congestion and parking costs, (motoring link).
I have to change trains twice, but this is no big deal as the connections are very easy, the NEC station is ideal and my local station is only 100 yards away from my front door!
If I turn-up at the railway station on the day the fare will be £76.90 return.
I can book an advanced return for £48.70 which is conveniently timed.
I have just jumped through a dozen or so hoops on-line and booked EXACTLY the same trains as the advanced fare, (but splitting the tickets) for £24.70.
A quick Google also saved me the £2.50 booking fee.
Why oh why is our privatised railway system so convoluted? And why do us taxpayers subsidise private companies which pay-out a dividend?
Rant over. Read more
Well done nick. Some good advice for travellers. Here in Kent we use South East Trains. Some weekdays(off peak) and most weekends they offer a 4 ticket return to Charing Cross, about an hours journey, for £35 complete. That is £8.75 each, return for 4 people travelling together. Not bad when SWMBO and her sister decide they need some retail therapy and me and the BiL get dragged along too.
Cheers Concrete

The air suspension on these is a complicated system with a pump at the front with various sensors and air bags at each wheel which control ride height. However, there is one component that often fails and it is the rear ride height sensor link arm. They usually break and cause the system to malfunction. The part is very cheap, around £20,but a pain to fit.Worth a look.
