Farming contributes 0.7% to UK GDP. In other words, it is actually just a hobby - mostly for rich folk anyway, and they will love this. Chuck in the footballer's wives and the school run mums and another winner for JLR. We could only hope it is a tad more reliable.

A a Defender and D2 owner, I don't mind. Time moves on. The Defender died and its replacement seems to be quite late in arriving and whatever it is, it won't be a Defender. JLR lied about the need to discontinue the old one (the G-wagen continues yet is essentially the same type of vehicle) - in reality it was just too labour-intensive and had too slim a profit margin. Shame the motoring press let them get away with it for the most part. Might have something to do with the advertising budget...

A good looking little car that could well add to Suzuki's current successes.

Still weighing up all the options. Our holiday last week proved yet again what a brilliant car the Leon 1.4 TSI is, 49.5 calculated mpg for the week (1200 miles) and never felt I needed more power (or torque) but we definitely need a bit more space in the next motor. On the journey there and back (430 miles each way) the boot was absolutely full and there were 2 suitcases on the back seat, good job its only pets and not people who sit in the back.

So having concluded a 1.4 TSi is what I really want yesterday I went to have a look at the new Tiguan. In 1.4 TSi 150 PS form with SE trim it has all the kit we need and its within the budget (although cheaper would be nice). Having downloaded the brochure and pricelist I had a few questions so I hoped I made contact with a knowledgeable member of staff, some hope.... Read more

The Ateca is quite a bit cheaper than the Tiguan - there's a good review of the 1.4 TSI in today's Autocar. But it may not be any more roomy than the Tiguan: Autocar says it doesn't have the sliding rear seat that the Tiguan has.

Just been on Carfile, a broker I have used before, and the prices (after deduction of any PCP contribution) are as follows:...

Hi. Due to circomstances I have had my Omega adapted to hand controls.

The hand control rods are fitted to the brake and accelerator pedals close to the pivot points. Just like any other automatic the car creeps when the brakes are off. The hand control to accelerate is pulled upwards allthough the conecting rod to pedal actualy presses down on the pedal arm but I find the action very stiff and the car jumps forward instead of picking up speed smoothly. I put this down to the extra pressure needed to overcome spring resistance because the point of push is close to the pivot point. The foot when used is lower down from the pivot and there is no problem. Does any one know if weaker return springs can be fitted, and would this affect the car when being driven by the feet. Any advice would be welcome, I don't know where the return spring is.. Read more

Further to comments on the Motoring discussion forum, I've had the handbrake cable replaced on my Focus 1.6Ti, 2007 plate.

I've little or no confidence in the garage where I had the job done following an issue with broken trim, so having read somewhere that a new cable will stretch after a while and will need adjustment, I'm going to do it myself.... Read more

It just so happens that a little while ago, I needed a replacement driveshaft for my Focus, and a man at the local breakers' yard pointed me in the direction of J&R. However, he told me that this was a personal recommendation because his employer tended to use another company for their replacement parts.

I actually ordered the right hand, driver's side shaft from J&R at a cost of 28 quid and it arrived nicely boxed, and obviously brand new a few days later. Then the fun began, because I retrospectively trawled the internet looking for reviews and found some bad ones. Not many, but enough to make me think I might have made an error (albeit not an expensive one). I ignored the obvious point that people who are happy with such purchases tend not to go to the bother of posting about them on internet forums. ...

Ive been going through the same problems with the DVLA over change of ownership of my car.i posted the slip first class as soon as the new keeper drove it away.i thought I had done the right thing posting the slip as what the DVLA wants.but a few weeks later the fines kept dropping through my letter box .when you try to phone these people ,you have to go through a robot system meaning you can't talk to anyone.i sent 6 letters at once all identical explaining I do not own the vehicle.but they kept on sending the threatening letters fines and possible court action.so I kept writing to these people.and at the bottom o letter I repeated I will not be paying any fines because I have not done anything wrong.it has gone on for a number of weeks now and they seemed to have backed down.i was prepared to go to court.you must photocopy every letter in order to defend yourself.i cannot prove that I posted the slip but at the same time they cannot prove you didn't post it.i kept explaining that their system was flawed .we should be allowed to change ownership in line.please comment if you have had similar experiences. Thanks for your comments guys .i will look into the change of ownership online .what bothers me is how much money do the DVLA make out of vunarable people who would just pay the first fine with the threat of a £1000 fine also court action even though they have done the right thing..

Hi, i am looking for another car as my old 1.6l breadbin shaped civic is problem-matic and too revvy on fast roads.I do about 12k miles per year probably about 30% of that short trips and 70% long trips.I spend quite a long time on motorways and A roads. The car needs to be big enough to carry a mountain bike inside and have an average sized boot will do.My budget would be about 6k.Im looking for something petrol that will be much better geared for cruising and do >40mpg on a long run.Not fussy about performance rather have something economical. It also needs to be reliable, have an insurnace group rating <25 and not cost that much more for road tax than my civic does at the moment.I want to avoid civic's from now on because i have had so many expensive problems with them.Ideally somthing Jap/Korean or German.

Any suggestions ? Read more

I've never seen a car shaped like a breadbin! If you mean 'breadvan', there was a van-shaped Civic in the 1990s. If yours is one of those, its age might make the problems forgivable.

I agree, GB, about the 2.0 litre S model: SWMBO had one in 2004 and it was a great car. Plenty of oomph and totally reliable, although the fatter tyres on this model made for a tanker-like turning circle....

Are there any legal ruling as for obstructing access to your driveway.

Neighbours opposite have 2 cars (Father and Son) and either one will park their car opposite my drive on the street not having a drive of their own, it can take 2 or 3 shunts to get on/off my drive. Despite asking politely them not to do so that fell on deaf ears, explaining it's difficult leaving for work at 5.30 am in darkness.... Read more
