After putting up with the dreaded 'check engine' light (MIL) for a while, I paid £24 to have the code read by a local garage. They found the code P0480, which is apparently due to a Low Speed Cooling Fan Relay Circuit Fault.

I've seen a Peugeot 5008 2L diesel MPV for £6K with 124K on the clock. Bodywork and interiors fine. It's the exact spec I want and they're v hard to find so I'm tempted by this one. It's been a company car and serviced at fairly long intervals of 19, 37, 58, 84 and 108K miles. I'm a novice buyer and have no knowledgeable car buff to take with me! Hoping to look at it tomorrow. What do you think? And if you say it's worth a look an you explain in laymans terms what I should check exactly please? Happy to lay on the floor to see under the car and get hands dirty in the engine etc. ADVICE NEEDED QUICKLY!!! All replies today appreciated thanks. I don't want to make an expensive mistake if I can help it!! Read more

I own a 12 year old Peugeot Boxer campervan with a 2.0 HDI engine. Last week the rocker arms on cylinder 1 suddenly broke while I was driving on the motorway. I wasn't speeding up or changing gear or anyhing, just cruising at a constant speed. At first I thought that the exhaust had blown and I pulled over. There was a knocling noise from the top of the engine. I called the AA and eventually I had to be taken back to my home on a recovery truck as the guys could not definitely identify the fault on the roadside.

My mechanic eventually identified the issue and has replaced the broken rockers. So what would cause this to happen? Engine has about 38k miles on the clock. 12 years old. Does not get used much over the winter months except for short local journeys. I had the timing belt replaced just before this happened and had driven about 60 miles but the mechanic said everything was OK, it had not jumped a tooth or become damaged. But unfortunately I didn't actually see the belt either on the engine or after he took it off. He had the whole thing sorted and rebuilt before he told me he had solved the problem.... Read more

As you seem to have conveniently lost your way to the other current thread on the subject of cambelts John, any chance of finding all (or any) this lovely evidence that other regular people are coming around to your way of thinking ?

Or will you suddenly lose your way to this thread too ?

This is my first post on this forum and if anyone could help me out I would really really appreciate it!

I bought a new Sandero Stepway in June this year and have had quite a few issues with both the car and subsequently the dealership too. I have currently reported a fault with the vehicle but the dealership have returned it twice to me claiming that there is no issue and that it is normal.... Read more

OK i got a Renault same system yes it does drop but the system compensate when the load goes on the compressor and up when the clutch lets off and mines an automatic so as long as the engine does not out there is no problem !

Think I've been a bit stupid and trusting of a franchised
Dealer. I have just purchased a 6 month old Nissan from
My local dealership. The car ( so I've been told ) has been
A demonstrator and used by one of the garage staff. It has covered
5200 miles. The car has a number of options that made it
An attractive buy - sunroof, 18 inch wheels and special paint.
I really assumed that the car would be a presented as an
Almost new car and would carry virtually all the protections
Of buying new from a main dealer - as a result I was probably
Not as vigilant as I would normally be when inspecting the car.
Apart from a small scuff low down on the rear bumper that I
Pointed out to the salesman (said he will get fixed) the car
Look great. However what I didn't pick up on was the front tyres having 3mm
Of tread left - bear in mind the vehicle has just over 5k on it.
So can I assume the car has had the wheels put on from
Another car ?? Or has it been used for drag racing ? !!!!!!!!!
Where do I stand with regard to this- I am annoyed that
I wasn't more vigilant??????

Sorry to read of your problem. The forum is right about large wheels and low profile tyres, although yours might be 55 profile which is not really low. Low are below 40 profile generally. My 17 wheels have 225/45/17 tyres, front wheel drive and quite a big car. I have always had Michelin Pilot tyres and easily get 20K plus before swopping front to back to even the wear out ready for a full set. Just over 5K is ridiculous. If I were you I would try to get the dealer to swop the 18 for 17 alloys with new tyres and haggle on a cost share. 17 with higher profile should see you alright for good mileages.

Good luck....

Hi All,

I’m after a bit of advice on my 2010 Insignia. The DMF is hanging on by a thread, the thing sounds awful and I’m worried that it is now damaging the gearbox.... Read more

it has to be said the fact the engine pulls like a train form 1500 rpm helps.

Yes that is half the battle won, nothing worse than an engine with nothing up to a certain rev point, often around 2000rpm, then all hell breaks loose for a 1500rpm rev band if you're lucky...

I'm considering changing my 11 plate Micra in the next few months as it's low on driving enjoyment and would like something a bit newer and more fun to drive with similar running costs.

The local Nissan dealer also sells Suzukis and Hyundais and the newer shape Swift looks quite tempting and retails for about the same as a Micra. I did have one as a courtesy car 3 years ago and found it quite good to drive if a bit stuffy without aircon( it was an SZ2). Also it returned 50 mpg on a short journey.... Read more

The Swift is far more reliable car than a Mini. It's genuinely one of the best small hatches you can buy.

I agree. A very underated car. I've had the 1.5GLX and now own the current model.

I have a VW 2015 2L Tiguan TDI BMT 4MOTN with a DSG gearbox.
Yes you've guessed it, in June the software was changed (23R7) under the Nox recall and resulted in a significant rattle when under power at ~1500rpm.
Back to my main dealer, VW Lancaster (Ayesbury), who recommended I took the car out on a test run with a technician. He confirmed the fault and the Service Adviser booked my car in and provided me with courtesy car free of charge.
Contacted by the dealer the next day and told 'the computer is showing no faults' but they would contact VW HQ in Milton Keynes for advice.
The following day I was telephoned and told the car was ready for collection which I did and the fault was significantly better.
Today, I took it for a longer trip and could just detect the rattle but once it warmed up, it was back to it's old self; I can live with that.
The original upgrade was coded 23R7 but the dealer said the software they had most recently used was a new version.
Make of this what you will but in I think main dealer followed a sensible procedure and now I have back a car which is a joy to drive.
Good luck if you have one! Read more

I wonder why BMW continue with bolts rather than studs. Are there any other manufacturers using these?
