Bought a used VW TDI from a Honda main dealer and there is potentially an expensive clutch or gearbox issue. Only had it a week and has been getting worse since the day I got it. Test drive was short, and I thought it was a bit noisier than it should be in low gears, but it's my first diesel and decided to go with it as it was low mileage and full VW service history and from a big dealer. They have driven the car today and admit something is wrong, but not sure what. They say they need a couple of days to make enquiries. They gave me the car back. I really like the car, it's immaculate and want to keep it. They gave me a 3 month warranty with it from a third party company which only pays out £500. Am I in my rights to say they should fix it and I will not be liable for any charges with it being so soon after purchase? Read more

Under the Consumer Rights Act, which came in in October 2015, you have a 30 day rejection period. Basically, within that time, if a fault develops, YOU have the ABSOLUTE right to reject the car and receive a FULL refund.

You may choose not to exercise that right and accept a repair, if the garage offer to repair....

This has happened mostly when going around roundabouts or going up a steep hill.... Read more

I have noted that parking on the pavement is becoming more common. I believe that the pavement is for pedestrians only- I have seen anything ffrom a small hatchback to a damm 44tonne artic parked on the pavement.

Where is the traffic police when we need them- long gone.... Read more

This is it--it's all about changing behaviour....

Example.....it's amazing what the congestion charge is doing in central London( stopping people driving in-yes!) plus creating a complete absence of parking unless you are a "resident" paying extortionate rates or a vistor forking out £10 an hour....extend this sort of behaviour everywhere i say!....It's time for change!...

Hi,

My Girl Friend has a 2004 1.6 Litre engine Streetka, this issue is very strange, basically, when we start the car on a cold engine, it starts fine, if we drive it somewhere and stop the car and start it again straight away after stopping, it starts fine, if we leave the car for a few hour after driving it, it starts fine, HOWEVER if we drive it somewhere, and leave it for 30 minutes - 1 hour (whilst doing the food shop for example) when we start the engine again, not all the cylinders start it seems, when you accelerate it sounds like not all the cyclinders are firing, after a few seconds the engine management light flashes, however after driving for a couple of minute, it seems to sort itself out and the engine light goes out and sounds like all cylinders are firing!

So it would appear that on a slightly warm engine it struggles to start properly!

So my Questions are:

1. Is this someone of Major Concern! That need looking at right away and is it safe to drive still?

2. Any ideas what could be the cause of this? I am at a lose, I could understand if it happened on a cold engine or on a completely warm engine, but why only on a slightly warm engine, it does not seem to make any sense

We have tried about 4 - 5 times when starting on a warm engine to see if it's a one off, but it happens every time!

Thanks for taking the time to read the above, will value any advice!

Thanks

Railroad.

I would check for fault codes first, and I would suspect you have P0300 - Random Multiple Misfire. The cause of this could be anything that could cause a random misfire, because random is exactly what it is. As said above spark plugs, leads and coil are usual suspects, but also so is a sticky valve which can be diagnosed with a vacuum gauge to measure inlet manifold vacuum.

Hi I have a Chrysler Voyager 2.8 deisel 2006 auto. In the last few months it has been cutting out for no reason on heavy breaking or quick accleaction, I can start it up again straight away. I have taken it to two garages and both say No errors showed on their test equipment and they could not help. Has anybody had the same problem and found the answer, or have any ideas please. Has the diesel fuel filter been replaced recently?I think some models have 2,one on the engine and one above rear axle.

Thank you, the filter has not been renewed for a long time, and I did not know there are two. Thank you.
