Hi guys,
Sorry to bother. We have having some issues with wifey's Mazda 5 2.0 D that I thought I had solved but got a call today to say all is not well :(
She was having some intermittent issues where the car would lose so much power.....even sustaining 30 mph was an issue. At idle it seemed like it was almost off 2 cylinders.
This happened a wee while ago and after some internet sleuthery, I had suspected the suction control valve on the diesel pump given the symptoms and duly replaced this with an original Denso part.
However, as mentioned.....this has just happened again today while she was dropping the little ones to school and it's quite obvious that fixing this problem is beyond me.
I had my diagnostics stuff (fairly basic) on the car when it happened previously and the car is throwing no codes at all. There is nothing historic either.
I am suspecting the HP pump but really think I need a Diesel Jesus to confirm this (or otherwise) and help as this car is important to us as the main family steed.
As of now, the problem is no longer intermittent (which would help diagnosing at least) but that could obviously change as it has done in the past.
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Hello all,
Got the track rod ends on my Ford Fiesta replaced a couple of weeks ago. Today was the first time I took it up to any kind of high speed. Noticed a severe vibration through the steering wheel at 50+ mph. The rest of the car does not vibrate, only the steering wheel. I know this can be caused by an out of balance wheel or poor wheel alignment, does anyone know which is more likely?... Read more
You need to get your front wheels balanced and the tracking checked as soon as possible.
Had to jump start my 2005 Yaris yesterday as the interior light was left on. The orange engine light popped up on the dash, I was already on the way to the mechanic to grease my brakes. He ran a diagnosis on the car and the code read stretched timing chain. Now my understanding is that it's pretty rare for this to happen, but if the chain snaps I'm in for a huge bill! So I'm wondering, would jump starting the car cause the computer to go a bit mad and throw this code up? Or is it likely the chain really has stretched even though the car has only done 56k?! As you've had to jump start the car (presumably for a flat battery - though you don't say why it was flat, eg normal use or left on a light) I'd suggest you charge the battery properley and also have it tested. It may be the battery is old and on its "last legs". You cannot fully charge a discharged battery by driving alone - it will need charging with a charger
To look after your timing chain, your best friend is regular oil changes. HJ recommends twice a year. Most chains are lubricated by oil draining back from the cam area and any sludging up here can starve the chain of oil, which can lead to catastrophic failure....
My neighbour has a 2002 Rover 75 CD 2l which he has owned from new. At a recent service, the garage told him that the rear parking sensors were not working, although a computer diagnosis showed that a signal had been received from the sensors suggesting that the 'beeper' itself had failed. Assuming this is the right diagnosis, can anyone tell me him where the 'beeper' is please so that it can be checked.
The garage didn't know and suggested he find out himself to save the cost of them searching the car and/or internet. He has used the garage for ages and is v.happy with them. Can anyone help please?... Read more
I am not sure where the sounder is located, but on a similar age Bmw 5 series (which has similar electrics),the sounder is under the rear parcel shelf.
hello i have just fitted a second hand gearbox to my vauxhall astra 2006 1.4 sxi and installed a new clutch while i was at it. i fitted an LUK clutch and slave cylinder. the car now takes up to 10 seconds after releasing the clutch to start moving and the same after changing gear. the clutch pedal will also get very stiff and not work at all. i have bled the system using a pressure bleeder but still no change. only thing i can think of is I have misaligned the clutch trying to get the gearbox back in. any help would be greatly appreciated. got it sorted today. thanks for everyones help. I changed the master cylinder this morning. got one from a breakers for £20 and would love to say that it solved the problem but it didnt. so i checked the lines for any blockage by disconecting the pipe that attaches to the slace plastic T piece thing and was getting a free flow of fluid when pressure pleeding. so decided to pull the plastic T piece that the slave connects to and erm erm when i removed it from the old box the little rubber seal that goes on the end of the slave pipe must of come off and stayed in the chamber then i fitted new slave with new rubber seal not realising old seal was still up there. yes that was causing my blockage removed it reffited and everything spot on now. so a lesson to self check everything now matter how small and insignificant it may seem. felt like a bit of an idiot but problem sorted now and thanks again for all your help it did point me in the right direction as i was ready to pull the box again. how annoyed would i have been then.
I was tidying the lift today and found 3 bits of glass for what looks like an original beetle. Has vw Belgium stamp. It looks like passenger rear and front and back windscreens. The rubbers are a bit perished but the glass looks OK these are no use to me whatsoever. How do I find them a new hone? EBay, specialist website owners club? Any suggestions welcome. They are really quite small for a windscreen.

Owners forum, but before doing so call a couple of VW parts companies and enquire about purchasing some replacement glass for a Beetle - you will at least then have some idea of value.

The other advantage with Ford is that most garages will know their way around a mondeo due to the amount of them on the road, which would also mean cheaper parts.
Mondeos are, like most well maintained cars, pretty reliable. My experience with Ford has been less than positive and I would personally never have another but I appreciate there are many happy Ford drivers out there....
I've got a registration number on retention coming up for renewal. The rules changed last year, so I'm wondering what the situation is now.
I've got a rentention document (V778) that says I can extend for one year for £25. Can I send that in with payment, as I've not been sent anything to say this form has been invalidated.... Read more
Yes, just had the same situation. For various reasons not a lot of time so to be safe has sent £25 cheque which was returned with explanation.
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but if I pull up to a set of traffic lights or am in a jam and I stop with the engine running (stop/start not working) and leave the car in 1st without applying the handbrake (just foot on the footbrake), am I damaging anything, such as the clutch?

Yes, you'll be wearing the clutch release bearing.
You're also vulnerable if anyone runs into the back of you and jolts your foot off the brake. And annoying divers queued behind you by having your brakelights on....

Brilliant! Thanks for letting us know.

If its a common rail engine I doubt that it will be the HP diesel pump, could be the MAF though. If you have to take it anywhere take it to a diesel specialist, they usually know what they are doing.
