When I'm driving alone it's fine for the most part, car will drift left because of the road curve a little bit as soon as someone gets in the passenger seat the car pulls hard, even when my wheel is right it still goes left..

4 wheel alignment done, new tyre, wheels swapped round and it's still doing it. I can't stand driving it and I have to every day with passenger.

Someone please help me Read more

I have had just a single front spring changed on my car in the past. It didn't make any difference to how the car handled or drove whatsoever. I was told by my garage that it was only necessary to change one spring, the broken one. This advice proved to be correct.

Could be a small weep from the cam cover at the rear of the left cylinder bank, drips might get onto the exhaust and burn off. It might never weep enough oil to drip onto the ground.

Best thing is to get your hand back there (when the engine is cool, of course) and have a feel around. If you get wet oil on your fingers, that's where the leak is.

I am going to see a VW Transporter which was a white van according to the HPI checks but is now sprayed orange. The seller has claimed he forgot to change the V5C which still claims its a white van. Am I able to buy the van and then change the colour with the DVLA? Cheers Read more

The seller changed the colour - should be his/her responsibility to tell the authorities. If the seller can't be bothered, walk.

The washer pump is in the reservoir. You will need to remove the right front wheel and plastic wheel arch liner for access. Any good motor factor should be able to supply a replacement part.As for the radio, there may be a fuse in the back of the radio, which is easy to remove.Pull off the volume knob, and you will see a small screwdriver slot ,push to one side and the spring loaded bracket will release and the radio will pull forward.

This has been in to both my local garage and a Ford Dealer as it's not been starting. The local boy suggested an immobiliser problem and said it needs a Ford Dealer. It went on monday by AA to Ford who say a new EGR assembly is required as the existing unit is closing and causing th immobiliser to activate. Fault codes P1622 and B1681 have been quoted. Ford want £791.00 plus fitting plus VAT for this which they say will sort the problem. I picked up the car yesterday as Ford got it started and went back to my local garage who can supply a new EGR assembly but are still concerened there's an underlying problem whereby even if they replace the EGR there may still be starting issues.

I'm no mechanic but feel a bit like piggy in the middle here. How easy is it to source an EGR from a scrapyard - I wouldn't know one if it bit me on the nose to be honest.... Read more

Egr valve fault can cause poor/bad starting and running issues, but has nothing to do with the immobiliser.Unfortunately, the egr valve on these is part of the inlet manifold and comes as a complete assembly. It is a real pig to fit.Part can be bought new out of the main dealer network for a lot less.

Hello Everyone.

I have a weird problem with my Audi A3, maybe someone has come across this before, or can provide helpful suggestions of where to look….

The car is an Audi A3 1.6 petrol 2002 with a AVU engine. It’s covered 280,00 miles but has been well serviced, there is for instance absolutely no cam wear and the head is yellow inside, not black. The car runs on LPG as well as petrol.

The problem is that is has a misfire on cylinder 2.

It’s not the ignition. As the coil, leads and plugs have been changed. Also the coil (which is used for 2 cylinders) has been inverted, the fault stayed on cylinder 2.
It’s not the fueling as all petrol injectors all spray the same. Also the problem does not change when switching between petrol and LPG fuel.
It doesn’t appear to be the engine either. A compression test gives the same pressure on all cylinders.

Any ideas?
The only idea I have is a sticking valve. It can keep up at tickover, for the compression test, but not when the engine’s running…. A long shot, however, since the problem one of the tappets did tick for a few seconds when I started the engine one time. That hasn’t happened since I’ve owned the car, which is since 2012 and 100,000 miles ago.

Help!

Thanks for the reply Railroad. I will try and swap the tappets on cylinder 2 with another cylinder, without removing the head, to check that.

I think the way it works is:

When I'm drunk, PCP deals look very, very tempting and oh so affordable. When I'm sober, PCP deals look massively profligate and I retreat to buying from savings!...
