One of my boys is working in Texas for 2 to 3 years - he has a 2015 diesel X5 & a 2015 petrol 430 - the BMW USA servicing is an oil change once a year or 10/12K - so 2 changes x per year on the X5 and once a year on the 430.

Longlife oil changes seems to be a "UK/European invention" that never made it to BMW in USA....

Have to admit - never before heard that as a reason to stay with the AA for, an amazing, THIRTY years. That's bordering on the incredible.

And there you have it "once you get used to the turbo lag". And the narrow power band, the clattering noise. It's not the pressing of the accelerator which is a chore but how a diesel feels when you do drive it hard, it just feels like it can't be bothered. I'm not for one minute suggesting the 1.8 petrol in the Civic is a good engine it just felt more engaging than the diesel.

I've only owned 2 turbo-diesels, a Hyundai 2.2 and VW 3.0 - neither suffers from any turbo lag due to the use of a variable-geometry turbo, as most cars get fitted these days - and at 430/580 Nm instant torque everything is as instant as you want....

The ABS warning light isn't illuminating when the ignition key is turned. What could cause this?

My other half bought the car 2 weeks ago and the ABS light came on when we test drove it. They said they'd sort it and it was possibly a sensor. Went back a few days later to buy and ABS light didn't come on. Dealer said the brakes were sharp so watch sharp breaking. Suspected they'd put new pads in. But noticed today it doesn't come on with ignition.... Read more

Hi, I have just purchased my 2nd Picasso, a 2008 plate, I have noticed when I went to strap one of my children in one of the rear belts, it locked after a few inches then released and locked again until eventually I could pull enough of the belt out to strap my child in, when I unstrap the belt it retracted easily, if I pull the seat belt out slowly it doesn't lock up as much, but surely it shouldn't keep locking and releasing under normal operation, my only concern is the mechanism is faulty, or could this get better on more use, also is there anything I can spray on the belt to help making not lock up, I have 3 months warranty on my car..Thanks for any help.

Thank you, it has just passed an mot 2 days before I purchased the car from a garage

Presumably either at or paid for by the garage you bought it from????? in which case there's a VESTED INTEREST. Go to your local friendly test station and ask for an independant viewpoint.

Bought a 2004 ford fiesta, I have the eight digit key code in case I lose the key but I wondered if this code is related to the radio code which is four digits. I don't have the radio code but did not want to remove the radio to get the serial number to look up the code. I was hoping the first four digits of the eight digit key code may correspond to the four digit radio code. It does have the word keycode on the front of the 4500rds radio, that's what made me wonder if they were the same thing, keycode and radio code. Read more

That will be handy if I can do that. I had a look in the cars hand book for information on this but there is no mention of getting the serial number this way, only the VIN if it is stored in the radio.

Anyway I will give it a try tomorrow, hopefully it will work, I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks very much for your help.

You may also have an exhaust baffle broken away inside causing resonance, whether or not it's blowing.

Just purchasing a 1 year old Toyota Auris Hybrid Icon Plus. One thing that puzzles me is the insurance grouping for this car is 14 but for both the Icon and the Excel its 7. Sure enough insurance quotes indicate that the Icon plus for me is about £40 to £50 more than the range topping Excel but my thoughts are why and can this be challenged?

I am thinking about getting Michelin Cross Climates or Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons for this car how does that effect the TPMS. Which tyre in your view is better.... Read more
