I am shortly having my cambelt changed( 2nd time round!). In the service book it refers to the "toothed belt". In other editorials i have come across -the words "timing belt" is utilised...are they all one of the same thing or or or????...thanks Read more
Much has been said about oil-change intervals and vehicle inspections, but I see no mention of the crankcase breather system.
My 75 with the BMW 2.00l diesel entered Bristol last week followed by a billow of blue smoke and a good smothering of oil in the engine bay. Recovery diagnosed blown turbo seals.... Read more
Yes the breather was always a problem, but in many cases those same BMW Diesels had a new turbo by the time 50k miles had been covered and the breather usually changed for the newer type at the same time.
Did the Rovers fitted with this lump also get the swirl flaps of doom that usually mean engine destruction when they get sucked into the combustion chamber?
The total luggage capacity of the V90 is 1,526 litres (including underfloor storage), my MK1 Focus estate has a capacity of 1580 litres without relying on underfloor storage to make the headline figure. Even by class standards the Volvo's space is paltry. Merc E-class is 300 litres more spacious while the A6, BMW 5 series and the previous V70 all have more capacity
Volvo are quite clearly going for style over substance. I can see antique dealers buying something else. The Skoda Superb has a cavernous 1950 litres of space. Mover over Volvo. Read more
c-pd115, That is quite remarkable given your car has boot space of just over 300 litres while a Mondeo IV estate was over 500 litres.
The V60 is 430 litres (not including the underfloor), it's the saloon (S60) which is around 300 litres. Having had one as a courtesy car, the S60's boot IS small....

You have to wonder, dont you? But I guess, not everyone is a car nut.... Read more
The reply is to the point but probably missleading.
I had 2 Golf GTi's. The T did not mean turbo....
Hi I have a Clio that is rough idling I've change the coil pac plugs and leads I did a code read and its p0300 multiple misfire I need to do a compression test yet but I'm wanting to know where the vacuum pipes are I cannot see any so I can change them.
Has anyone els had a rough idea problem and what else I can check
2005 1.2 8v clio2
Thanks in advance Read more
There are no "vacuum pipes" as such other than the brake servo pipe.Rough idling could be problems with the inlet manifold O rings leaking or a gunged up throttle body.I think you will find that the tappets are adjustable on these, could be a related problem to the idle issue, but requires removal of the inlet manifold for access.
We're all used to horror stories and reading HJ too much with accounts of failed DPFs, ECUs, etc. and huge repair bills is enough to give you nightmares and visions of imminent bankruptcy. So here's a positive story - I think so, anyway.
Took the car (2004, 157k) in for service and MoT today to my local trusted indy. Picked it up this afternoon. New front discs and pads, wheels balanced and swapped F to R, tracking done, headlight bulb changed, full service - £300 incl. MoT. And an informed talk with proprietor about the car's condition, long-term prospects, etc.... Read more
That's good news and thank you for telling us about it. The X-type is often maligned for not being a 'real Jaguar' - whatever that means - but you're certainly reaping the benefit of good old Ford mechanicals. If that had been a 3-litre at 157,000 miles I don't think you'd have got away with £300.
Enjoy the summer with it!
Currently have a 2005 Yaris but now have 2 kiddies & a boot consumed by a double pram! Had a bit of a mare with the Yaris which has convinced my husband it's time to pass the Yaris on to my sisters to learn to drive in and get ourselves something else.
We live in London, so economy is important. We do travel down to Bournemouth so we need a decent boot space. Husband wants Golf, I don't.
So wondering what you guys would suggest? Had a look on the car chooser....and the Golf came up! Read more
Thanks for your suggestions everyone, I'll check them all out and have a ponder over it. I love my little Yaris, it does what I need it's just a bit too small now I guess. The reason I don't want a Golf simply is because my husband will start having a midlife crisis and put alloy wheels and ridiculous exhaust and who knows what else on it!! He has form, and I'm more into a family car that is reliable, not looking for a race everytime I'm at the traffic lights!! I'll start researching these suggestions, thanks again :)
Afternoon all. I recently purchased a 63 reg audi a4 avant black edition with the 2.0 tdi 177 hp engine. The stated mpg when the car was advertised on the midlands audi's dealer website was 58.9 mpg combined. It became apparent very soon after had the car delivered was no where near this. A 200 mile round trip that was mainly motorway work at very steady pace returned exactly 40 mpg. This is a massive difference to it's stated economy figure and to be quite honest i would probably not bought the car if I new this was going to be possibly it's higher figure.
I can see on your real mpg page that the real mpg average is 42.5. I've had the car 2 weeks. Do I have any basis for compensation based on the fact I feel I was mis-sold the car?
Surely it's not right that the car is sold to me on false figures? Read more
Indeed, re the proven capacity of wet clutches to withstand use and abuse.
However the dry cerametallic clutch in the Fiat 640 tractor from the middle 70's, withstood about 30 years of hard but fair use, under my fathers, Uncles, and to a lesser extent mine own use, incl on a hedge cutter(not renowned for being kind to clutches with the reletavily constant stop/starting under full PTO power)...
