My sons 2003 Ford Ka has sunk at the rear to the point that the wheels hit the arches on bumps. Had a quick look underneath and can't see anything broken. Any idea what this might be? I thought it may be a spring but then I would have expected it to be down on one side only? Thanks for any advice. Read more

There was a story some years ago about a heavy snowfall in the USA. One of the residents of an apartment block cleared a space through chest deep snow outside his apartment to park his car, and went to get the car. When he returned he found that a woman had been looking for a place to park and thought she was entitled to park her car in the space he had cleared. To cut a long story short, he shot her.

Nah, don't bother with a dealer, there's a great UK network of Peugeot Citroen drivers with the Lexia diagnostic equipment that will do this for the cost of a pint.

Just a quick question on insurance.

Yesterday afternoon a guy drove into the back of me whilst I was waiting to enter a roundabout. He was very apologetic and said he was happy to pay for fixing the damage - which is a dent/crease in the boot door panel just underneath the number plate and a slightly damaged bumper. It's just cosmetic but I do want to get it sorted.... Read more

Their own corner. Always their own.

You know how some people start to look like their dogs? "Advisers" in insurance companies look like their computers - no imagination, slavish following of what they see on the screen in front of them, and no conception of the notion that if the customer doesn't find them helpful, they will go elsewhere. ...

We have need of a replacement second car which will do about 3,000 miles a year. Fortuitously our son is getting a company car so needs to sell his 10-reg, 1.2S 3- door Corsa. its got full dealer service history but has done 85,000 miles. Its an ex driving school car which he bought when it was 20 months old. The gear box oil was changed then as a precaution.

Its been reliable but needs a couple of dents knocked out (hit and run), he thinks the clutch is on the way out and front brake pads are likely to be needed soon. It had an insurance repair (bonnet, grill, light and front wing) a couple of years ago but no chassis damage.... Read more

Rob, thanks a new one on me. Interesting.

I've had a look and green prices for similar age/mileage range from £1500 (unrepaired cat C with wing etc available to bolt on) to £4000 (unbelievable) for a 1.2 with VXR body kit. £1200 to £1500 is typical 2007 green price....

The VAG TSI engines and oil consumption seem to either use no oil at all or several litres between services!

According to general 'wisdom', what causes the difference appears to be down to how they are driven, particularly during the first five thousand miles. Somewhat counter-intuitatively they seem to need to be driven fairly hard during this period, making use of the full range of revs available from time to time (obviously only once the engine is warm though!)...

I wanted to have fitted a Black Vue dash cam, Toyota are telling me that if it is hard wired it could void the warranty.

I re contacted the shop they say that Dealers often say this to get round it we could fit a piggy back sytem via the fuse box...so that would not affect the sytem or warrant.... Read more

If it is done correctly with its own fused supply, possibly from the cabin fuse box, then I can,t see it being a problem.there may even be an unused position in the fuse box that could be used.Take it to a competent electric techie.

Can't agree with HJ. If an advert says "One previous owner" I would expect to see only one previous owner on the V5C, not two. Read more

Ditto,

Since my former employer went bang in 2005 I have had to buy my cars retail and have had zero issues with any of the ex-fleet/management/hire cars as against the final 2 rover 45's and the 75 which were my last employee purchases....

Warning

My current car is a 14 year old Nissan Primera (P12) hatchback. It has served me well. However, I have got the dreaded engine warning light. Garage struggling to fix it.

The Primera is a very comfortable car and a joy to drive, even though it is 14 years old. It is still more comfortable then say some smaller cars, I have hired on holiday. But the Primera does not inspire me to wake up drive all the way to Scotland! It is not a fun car to drive. I guess today's cars are heavier. I have fond memories on my first car 1.3L car, which was a coke can on wheel! ... Read more

snap - at 155k miles I am in a similar situation as you. The front exhaust box needs to be replaced and the gearbox is giving trouble - when warm it can be difficult to change gear - especially 3rd/4th - I'm getting quotes before deciding my next step

my P10 Primera was a better car, (running sweet at 172k when I sold it) but my current P12 has many plus points too - a decent size boot for instance (bigger than the Focus/Leon/Pulsar), lots of toys - sunroof, cruise control, satnav, reversing camera, Xenon headlights, 6 track CD changer in the dashboard, climate control .. and more!...
