Hi, I wondered if anyone had definitive answers to some queries I have:
I'm considering buying a 40 year old car that's in The Netherlands, driving it to the ferry at Hook of Holland, and from Harwich back to my house. The car would have a current dutch MOT and whatever their equivalent of Road Tax is, and I would have insurance to cover driving that car in the EU.... Read more

The much-loved Octavia vRS estate will need to go sometime this year before the warranty runs out, and be replaced with something that (as SWMBO and I are semi-retired) may need to last longer than the usual 2 - 3 years.
Another vRS would be the obvious answer - with no need to start a thread - but for two things: (a) the vRS has substantial, quite firm, side bolsters on its sports seats which SWMBO, with a back problem and an arthritic knee, find it difficult to get in and out of; and (b) there are too many well-documented problems with VAG cars after the warranty expires, especially those with DSG. Plus - a change might be fun!... Read more
I did think of the Scout - a vRS without the bolstered seat - but it has a very wide door sill which is another problem.
Hello, do you know the audio keycode for Ford Fiesta Style 2005 serial number M006951. I had my battery changed and now my radio does not work and my radio manual does not have my keycode in :( Read more
It worked thank you! :)
Anyone got any views on this product to get around resetting service intervals:
My Freelander 2 MY13 (and many other JLR cards ) have to bet set for next service and DPF oil usage at dealers, as a ex mechanic I find this a tad frustrating.... Read more
Hey,
My Colt needs new gearshift linkage cables, I have sourced a used part from a petrol Colt, will these fit my diesel colt?? or would I be better off to keep looking for the part off a diesel colt??... Read more
When did VW /Audi stop fitting these reliable injectors and move on to the unreliable siemens type in their PD engines?
Have I got to look back to a 2002/2003 model year to get this reliability and an engine with no issues? Read more
I have loads of vehicles. It's all getting a bit complicated.
The Passat was my commuter until it broke. Around that time we'd just bought a Mitsubishi Outlander to replace my wife's grand c-max as we'd moved into the sticks . The Passat broke before we'd sold the c-max so I started using the c-max. I've also recently bought a Fiat Croma from the auction for a song. It had a turbo issue so I had the tubo rebuilt and hope to get it put back together and on the road soon to allow me to sell the c-max. The c-max is actually a very nice drive, handles really well. But the 1.6 ecoboost engine guzzles petrol. I also have a zx9r motorcycle which I use in the summer to commute. I havent told my wife yet, but the plan is to have the Croma as a commuter and buy a classic with the money I've saved. I made the huge mistake of selling a lovely 2.8i Capri about 5 years ago and regretted it ever since....
My brake pedal has started to drop when I engage the handbrake on my 2004 Fiat Punto Sporting - is this normal?
I have also found it harder to engage reverse gear - could this be linked?... Read more

You haven't answered the question. You are only comparing PCP with Official on the road cost. Just a quick check on Drive the Deal shows you can get the later Model SLC 250D AMG LINE 2DR 9G-TRONIC for £28,695. You need to compare with the actual price customers will pay for a fair comparison to be made. Read more
Ahhh this is actually so incredibly useful! Honestly Im just terrible with knowing what to do with this kind of thing - cars get me confused enough as it is - top that off with finance and money and Im just completely at a loss - so this is genuinely really helpful! In terms of finance (I know this is probably a daft question) but is there a particular brand of car that gets you a better deal? For example are Peugeots going to get me a better finance deal than a Kia? Or is it totally down to the company you get the finance from? If so what are good companies I can go through to get the best deal? Is that admiral one a good one? My friend sent me this link to one called Nationwide (not the bank) www.nationwide-cars.co.uk/ - are they good? Or do I used confused.com or something? Honestly I have absolutely no clue so any advice or recommendations or anything would be much appreciated - single ‘no car mad boyfriend’ needs to really start to learn more about this kind of thing hahaha.
Hi all, my car headlights like to switch themselves on and think they must've been on after last used and the battery drained over the weekend. The battery was taken off, charged and put back on (not by me) but I don't think the safe procedure I've read about was followed due to not knowing about it. So now it won't start (previously sounded like it would but then just turned over) and the STOP and engine management lights have come on. Could the ecu have forgotten the key code stopping it from starting? Or could the ecu be damaged now? ( was only replaced two years ago) the key fob still works on the central locking if that's relevant.(I'm an absolute car novice) Looking for ideas what it could be as MOT expires tomorrow and has had over £1000 of work done in last two years so can't keep throwing money at it and weighing up whether it's worth keeping as I've paid out more than its value in repairs already. Thanks Read more
If car headlights are switching themselves on it sounds like the COMM2000 unit may need a repair. There's a very good chap called Greame in Bradford who advertises repairs on Ebay for under £30. His number should be on the listing and he'll happily answer technical queries for free.

According to UK law, if it's temprary import you can still drive it with no problem without registering or taxing it in the UK as long as you dont plane to live there, vehicle must be registered and taxed in Netherlands, and you won’t usually have to pay VAT or duty, BUT you need to pay for insurance at least a third party insurance, You can check this topic from honestjohn there a lot of details.
