And you think that parking couldn't get any worse?

Where I used to live, an elderly lady used to park her car at the 'give way' line on a road junction. Many times people would be waiting behind it none the wiser that it was parked until they had waited for some time and it didn't move.

Thats common around Schools, parents Park on roundabouts because all parking spaces have gone around the School, and even the Police just drive past.

The world has gone mad,but all the time they get away with it, the more they do it

Followed a young lady in a golf this afternoon locally, she was all over the road fiddling with the radio or something. Then clipped a wing mirror on a parked car and swerved back out and nearly hit on coming car. She continued on through a busy shopper area with zebra crossing and hazzards everywhere. I have a dashcam and it's all recorded, is it worth reporting? No damage to other car but atrocious driving behaviour. Probably doesn't think she's done anything wrong.

Where I live, people always park opposite the entrance to my housing development (you guessed it - for the station, to avoid paying £6 a day), making people take risks just to get out onto the road. Despite years of asking (pleading), the council still hasn't got around to putting together (and then enforcing with tickets) a traffic order to properly enforce the highway code and paint some double yellow lines.

A resident also likes to block everyone in by parking (against the [private] development rules) his second car half on the pavement/road (he has a garage and a drive), as does his daughter (3rd car) and all their relatives/friends. Its like the whole family had a common sense bypass and are stuck in 'lazy' mode.

Saw one guy near my parents' house park opposite a traffic island (half on the road), making it very tight for cars but impossible for anything bigger. The road is a bus route and a cut through used by delivery vans. Oh dear.

When I lived in (almost) central Geneva close behind the railway station, we had lots of proclems with people parking in our reserved parking spaces.

One sunday afternoon I came home with swmbo and 2 little girls to find no place to park to disgorge kids and wife and bits. Parked in front of offending vehicle, put wife and kids into house, and got my tyre valve tool and deflated all 4 tyres, then added in my wifes nail varnish on the windscreen the advice to not park in my place as it was reserved and paid for.

Person comes to door to complain .. Tough.. said I. I will call Police. Go ahead.. Police said civil matter. Gentleman highly inconvenienced as he has TD tyres on his car and his power steering would not function to move the car the 100 or so metres to the filling staion with an air pump.

Had to take each wheel off in turn to roll it there and back and had to pay to inflate each one.

Very cross with me but never parked there again.

Whiel I agree with letting more than one tyre down so they can't put the spare on, nail varnish on the windscreen? That's criminal damage / vandalism and not a civil matter.

I was travelling with SWMBO and stopped to let a young woman reverse out of a driveway across the road and drive off. Perfectly executed manoeuvre. I would have taken longer to do that. SWMBO remarked that the young woman had not stopped talking on her mobile the whole time.

As said, not in the Uk. Police told him to deal with it himself. not the first time i had requested not to park in my space.

But end of the day a result. He never parked there again. And in Switzerland I could have legally had the car removed.

He got the message.

One winter we had a couple of feet of snow in downtown geneva, and I started clearing the driveway so that we would be able to get out.. So some numpty decides to park in the driveway while i am clearing it (had just about cleared enough space for a small car to get out), and strongly objected when i asked her to move as was clearing for acess. Just then the snowplough came down our street pushed up a nice pile in front of her car and i said ok we'll wait for the snow to melt and she had to borrow my shovel to clear the snow to get out.

There was a story some years ago about a heavy snowfall in the USA. One of the residents of an apartment block cleared a space through chest deep snow outside his apartment to park his car, and went to get the car. When he returned he found that a woman had been looking for a place to park and thought she was entitled to park her car in the space he had cleared. To cut a long story short, he shot her.

Like it!

If only more people thought about the inconvenience to others life would be a bit easier.

SWMBO is a doctor, and sometimes we were blocked in our driveway by inconsiderate parkers (sometimes visiting neighbours,) but have convinced neighbours to get visitors not to block us in. How?

Do you want a death on your conscience because we had to ask about 30 people living in our street to move their car before we can move.

They are also surprised when we say that swmbo has to live within a certain time distance (20 mins) from the hospital, and that if she is called in off duty she has no choice. She has to go in. However all neighbours now on board!
