Hi people new to this . But have run out of ideas ..... Well here goes I've got a Citroen dispatch 04 plate had it for a while and just recently last week it started losing power and making bad rattling sound and heavy blue smoking !!! And also engine management light was flashing ... Then it would go of and van would pick up again ... The van starts first time everytime but sounds likes it's missing and heavy blue smoking ... And the engine management light is on all the time. Now !!!! I have cleaned EGR VALVE OUT COMPLETELY !!! And had new filters put in I have had the van plugged into the computer and the only fault that keeps coming up and can't be erased is the crank shaft sensor ... But I have replaced this and the fault is still there . PO355 . And the van is still running rough !! So I don't know what else to do .. So if u experts could give me some ideas or pin point the problem that would be amazing .. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope U reply soon thanks Read more

Well at least you've narrowed it down,

I'd agree with garage it's a wiring fault which isn't unusual on a French vehicle....

Does anyone know the when the timing belt should be changed on the Ford Ka 61 plate please? I can't find it in the book, and different people have told me different things, either 5 or 10 years, the miles wouldn't come into it because I only do about 3000 a year. Thanks. Read more

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had this experience or similar.

I've had mental health probs for over 20 years, finally diagnosed in April so tell dvla & they say ok to keep driving if psyciatrist says so, & he said absolutely fine so have been driving since. Got letter yesterday saying my licence now revoked, gp & psyciatrist completely baffled as both told dvla fine to drive. I have been driving 22 years I have never had an accident, never any penalties, driven thousands of miles. ... Read more

Hi,

The cam belt on my 08 c4 Picasso has just gone at 61000 miles. The book recomends it is changed at 100000 miles. I am trying to get Citroen to take responsiblity as their is no mechanical reason for it to go. ... Read more

Depending on what engine you have, I assume its a diesel, some are designed for the rockers to break in the event of failure instead of damaging the valves which makes a much cheaper repair as the head doesn't have to come off. I know this is the case with the 8 valve 2.0. but I suspect yours is a 16 valve in which case I don't know.

This was certainly the case with 8 valve GM diesel engines too. Genuine rockers would break on impact, but those who suffered a cambelt failure after having fitted a non-genuine replacement camshaft and rockers were never so lucky, as non-genuine rockers wouldn't break....

Shame to read about all these problems with Dell laptops.

I'm still using the old Dell D620 that was given to me in 2009 when my job disappeared and I retired. It was around 2 years old then, and I had it 'secondhand'. I successfully migrated it from Win XP to Win 7, and more recently to Win 10. It happily runs this on 2 gb ram. The keyboard and screen are still better than my daughters much newer Inspiron and the battery and HD are the originals.

I suppose having tempted fate by writing this it will now die, but even if it does it owes me nothing!

My Audi A3 is shortly to be 8 years old having done a total of 65,000 miles. Four years ago it had the timing belt changed-as recomended by Audi . Should I have it changed again?...all comments recomended. Read more

I look forward to the day when a motoring maintenance logbook gives plain language guidelines-such as ...

1) under no circumstances avoid changing a timing belt...

Hey I have a vauxhall astra 2006 1.6L, around 2/3 days ago as i was driving it I began to hear this strange ticking/pumping noise coming from the engine/top of the dashboard (I can't seem to pinpoint the exact location) now this noise is not a constant noise it seems to just happen every couple of minutes. At first i thought it could just be the engine warming up but after an hour of driving it would still do it, its very hard to explain the noise but it would sound like a THUD about 4-5 times then stop and do it again 2-3 minutes later. It now even seems to be doing it even when the engine is switched off, which is kinda worrying. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what it could be. Its hard to say if its electrical or not.

Now this is my first post ever in a forum so apologises if it is a bit vague, but any help would be appreciated thanks Read more

Main battery is under the drivers side floor, smaller andilliary battery is behind a cover on the right hand side of boot. The terminals on this battery can get forgotten and corode due to condensation in the cavity, so they need checking and greasing.

I think on what everyone's saying, I'm not going to spend any more money on it, save like mad for the next 6/12 months and then sell for spare/repair or scrap it. Never buying a Ka again. Lesson learned!

If it continues to give good service i'd still bung it in a month before the MOT is due again, if it only needs a bit of plating to pass why not have another year of cheap almost depreciation free motoring, chances are you'll never own such a simple easy to fix car again in your life.

I have a Fiat 500 petrol engine '60' reg with 23,000 miles on clock. My main dealer is urging me to change the cambelt with dire warnings. Should I do so yet? Read more

Lots of discussion on the Fiat website about this old chestnut of a question. As usual, it boils down to how you feel about the wildly variable recommendations there are among different manufacturers about the length of time and distance a belt should remain in operation. Assuming nothing they drive seizes a belt should last the life of the engine if the basic design and material quality are good.

I would inspect it. A (presumed) mechanic has just posted on this very subject the observation that an 11yr old belt he has just changed looks as good as new - and it probably still is, having bedded in nicely. If it looks OK and sounds OK there is a good chance it will last ten more years....
