Vauxhall Astra - Vauxhall Astra making a weird noise - FrancisG

Hey I have a vauxhall astra 2006 1.6L, around 2/3 days ago as i was driving it I began to hear this strange ticking/pumping noise coming from the engine/top of the dashboard (I can't seem to pinpoint the exact location) now this noise is not a constant noise it seems to just happen every couple of minutes. At first i thought it could just be the engine warming up but after an hour of driving it would still do it, its very hard to explain the noise but it would sound like a THUD about 4-5 times then stop and do it again 2-3 minutes later. It now even seems to be doing it even when the engine is switched off, which is kinda worrying. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what it could be. Its hard to say if its electrical or not.

Hard to say but the only sounds I've heard from behind the dashboard are either the CD multichanger, the flaps for the heating/cooling vents moving, the recirculation flap switching over or a sort of trickling sound when the aircon is on. May be a flap is a bit sticky or could be an airlock or low coolant/refrigerant level causing bit of pip trouble. Might be worth playing with the heater controls to at least eliminate it. Good luck tracking it down.

Hey thanks for the reply, ive narrowed down the area and its definitely coming from the dashboard somewhere not the engine, so its electrical, i have noticed my fans arent as powerful maybe that has something to do with it, but it even starts wheb my engine is off and i unlock my car, very strange. Thanks for the reply appreciate it

If the fan is not as powerful,then I would suggest get the cabin filter checked.It may be blocked.
