For radios whose Serial Number begins with an "M", followed by a six digit number, you can use the following link to work out what your Keycode should be:

I know we have a thread running on the issue of VAG fiddling emissions but this is a question about whether or not you would buy a VAG car in the future.
Personally, trust in an organisation is important to me and I would probably not buy a VAG car for at least 5 years until I saw that they had got their act together.
For me this was a deliberate fiddle by the management team (not sure how high up) to con people into thinking their cars are something they are not.
Somewhere along the line the software to do this was approved by someone so it must have been known in the company and a deliberate act such as that would make me nervous about buying from them in the future.
I know all companies make mistakes like Toyota in the not too distant past but at least they admitted it and issued all the recalls - to me that is something very different from a deliberate fiddle such as this and makes me wonder what else have they done.
So would you buy a VAG in the near future ? Read more

Trust in car makers - you've never had a Vauxhall or a Ford then.

I have noticed that some cars have dual exhausts. What advantages/disadvantages does this bring ? Is it just something different ? Read more

1litregolfeater

Yeah but some cars have four exhausts... so that would be four times more powerful!

Are you confident to remove the wheels and check the brakes / ABS wiring and sensor ? If not then follow the advice above.

I will be buying back my daughters car at end of this month as she's off to OZ for a year. To avoid DVLA charging for an extra months tax, she will SORN on or before the last day of this month and I will buy/tax it on the 1st of next month.

Question: Can she online SORN today and make the start day oto be the last day of the month (i.e. we can still drive it until the last day), or is online SORN only option to be effective immediately?... Read more

We hit another version of this SORN shortcomings this week. My wife bought my son's car from him a couple of weeks ago but wanted it SORNd pending sale of her old car.

Wise to the fact that my son couldn't SORN it as SORN is not transferable, my wife ran off the SORN form from the website. My son sent off the V5 to one Swansea address and my wife the SORN form to another Swansea address....

At least WLTP will now be implemented in 2017 for Euro 6a - car makers daren't resist any longer.

Hi. I need advice. Over the last 3 months I have noticed the use of oil in my car getting progresively worse. To the point where I now use almost a litre of oil every 300 miles. When I first noticed I contacted my local Audi Garage who informed me 'they use a lot of oil'. I recently took the car in for an 'oil consumption test'. It failed. They have now sent off to Audi to see if they will repair. They said it would take some time as there are 'quite a few claims'. My concern is that my car has 50,000mls on the clock. I have had two services with Audi themselves and 2 with my local garage (I am very confident with my local garage he has serviced both my wife's and my son's car for many years). I have detailed the work he undertook at the service and he used the correct oil (and detailed on my receipt). I am concerned that all of the artcles I have read state that they undertake a good will repair to those that have a 100% Audi service history. I am afraid they will come back to me and state that because I haven't had a full service history with themselves that I will not be able to receive such support. My argument is that this is a fault of the car, not the service, as it is occurring, no matter who services the car. Is there anyone who can advise as to what I should say, or who has had experience of this happening who does not have a full service history? Your help would be gratefuly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation Read more

Just watched an episode of police interceptors.

Guy pulled over for driving a cloned vehicle, which had been originally sent for scrap. He didn't have a license. Who knows what offences he clocked up with the fake plates. The car was deemed unroadworthy as well.

So not only was he driving illegally, he had a vehicle that wasn't supposed to be on the road. No VED no insurance and cloned plates.
Not only that while being arrested he threatened to harm the copper on numerous occasions.

So bearing all that you'd think he'd have the book thrown at him.

No. He was disqualified for a year. On a license he doesn't have. And a fine of £130. Nothing more.

Is it worth the risk cloning your own vehicle. Using this to get free fuel. Not pay VED or insurance. Imagine what you could save. And if caught get a fine like that. I'd say yes. Why do we bother forking out when the penalties are this lame.

No deterrent for these scrotes. Read more

Just as we have contracted out our call centres and manufacturing industries to foreign countries, why don't we contract out our custodial service? A short spell in a gaol in one of our old outposts followed by a period of community work there might well be a beneficial correctional experience.
