VW and Others - Will anything change? No it won't! - oldroverboy.

Given the number of scandals regarding car makers over the past few years, including just about everyone,

Make your own list up.

I am entirely sure that at the end of the day it will be the consumer who pays as usual.

Course it will, what other source of income do manufacturers have.

I'm not in the least deterred from buying a diesel car. My next car will probably be a diesel VW.

It's difficult to predict whether a scandal will change anything. In the case of Lancia in the 1970's and 80's, appalling rust problems on their Beta range ended their importation to Britain and Fiat has never brought their Lancia brand back to Britain apart from a few of the weird looking Y model.

As I've mentioned in other threads, only lawyers will be the financial beneficiaries out of all this - for all the American authorities bluster about huge fines for VW, all it'll do is ensure US-EU free trade talks will break down over the US (in my view) deliberately and harshly (compared to domestic firms) going after foreign, and particualr EU-based firms to buy blue-collar votes.

At least WLTP will now be implemented in 2017 for Euro 6a - car makers daren't resist any longer.
