My neighbour had CCTV images of my cleaner's car making a 6 inch long scratch/mark on the left rear side bumber of their 4 year old BMW 318. Our cleaner admitted liability but not wishing to go through her insurance company settled the matter directly. I've just found out the neighbours asked her for £420 (which she has paid) for what looks like a £100 repair. I don't really want to be involved but this seems like extortion and I think they've milked it but going to the BMW garage whose eyes lit up when they knew it was insurance/third party. Does anyone have any suggestions, aside getting a copy of the invoice, on how to challenge this as I feel as though my cleaner has been, well, taken to the cleaners? Read more

As said, I don't want to get involved and agree with what you say and I'm staying well out of it. I told my cleaner she was naive paying without seeing an invoice but have told her to get one! Three weeks on, no sign of the repair, let alone an invoice... it's not as though they travel either; car rarely leaves the carpark!

My Galaxy has a very wet drivers side footwell each time it rains.

Thought I had checked the scuttles were OK by pouring water down the windscreen, which drains out (both sides) under the wheel arches. Are there other drains I have missed or another explanation?... Read more

Problem solved. Local garage found the air con drain was kinked and so was emptying into the car. All now straightened out and no repeat problem. Apparently, this is not an unusual fault.

Just over a year ago I bought what they said was the best battery in Halford's - a 100Ah Yuasa HSB019. After inadvertently flattening it a few weeks ago it has now twice failed to retain enough charge to start the engine. The 8 and 9 year old batteries in our other two cars have on occasion been similarly flattened and continue to be reliable.

Is there a known problem with this make?... Read more

Interesting to see my old thread reappear. Update - the replacement Yuasa battery is still going strong (ish) after 5+ years - out of guarantee now. But it doesn't hold much juice - has let me down once requiring a jump start when I inadvertently left the ignition on for about three hours, and will only just start the car after two weeks non-use. I won't choose this make again - I cannot believe it is 100aH. I usually charge it for a few hours if not driven for a week or so.

Engine failed on motorway wouldn't turn over. Rocker cover off, cam shaft in pieces - No 3 hydraulic cam follower in pieces - cam bearing houses cracked. Thought cam belt failure, took belt cover off belt ok, would have been in tension if the cam shaft was in one piece. No 3 valve still springs up and down returning to correct position. Disc on top of hydraulic cam follower had been broken for a few strokes judging by the marking. So my thoughts are that this broken disc became dislodged and jammed under shaft causing failure. Anyone agree or is it head off? Read more

The regen system parts can checked or tested or just have to replace them to make sure?

They can be replaced but I'd test them with decent diagnostic equipment to find out if they're faulty. Seems daft to waste time and money replacing good parts.
