My 1998 1.1 106 has started cutting out. After being parked for a while (Usually about half an hour). It starts up again fine, but cuts out within a mile or two. It happens on short and longer journeys, but never until after I've stopped.
I drove it for about 25 miles the day and it was fine.... again, until I stopped for about half an hour and within a mile had gone again. If I wait a few minutes, it starts again and often drives as normal, as if nothing has happened.... Read more
So many questions.
What are they like to drive? Both the size of the thing, and ride quality? (Although the Berlingo can 'nip' through small spaces, with every OTHER vehicle getting bigger, the size of the vehicle I'm driving soon won't make much difference.) I guess multistory car parks are a nightmare.... Read more
80 series is a favourite of mine. I remember a retired HGV driver having one from new. The registration was L499 *RT. Even at 100,000 miles it was just like new, everywhere, including engine bay, underneath etc. It was fastidiously maintained. Always thought the following models have become uglier and uglier.................a shame.
Clutch has packed up and garage recommends I change the whole thing flywheell, clutch and slave which makes sense given the car is old and the job is big. Any opinions?
Thanks Read more
You only need to change the flywheel if it is worn out, particularly if it is a dual mass flywheel, otherwise it is a waste of cash doing so.
As for the rest, if you are replacing the clutch (on this model) then always fit a new concentric slave cylinder whilst you are at it too. Failing to do so is likely to involve tears when the old one leaks or won't bleed up after the gearbox has been refitted.
Hi, I hope i am in the right section. Basically a s172 has been issued for an alleged collision with a parked car causing damage to there wing mirror. It has the approx time, date, and road of the accident, as well as the words careless driving, fail to report a road traffic collision and fail to stop. It is possible I may have hit the car as i have a small dent in mine and the wing mirror cover on mine was missing (since repaired). I would like some advice regarding my next step. I will send the s172 back and notify my insurance company, but should i phone the police contact number on the s172 to try to clear this up? Would it be possible to contact the damaged cars driver and sort this out or should i just send the form back and wait for further correspondence from the police. I should point out that i assume my car was witnessed by someone who made a note of my reg. I am so worried right now i cant sleep or eat and some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Quite right, DVD. My assumption is that the S.172 was only issued at the request of the other owner / insurance co.
Having moved from the (slightly) isolated lovely place to live that was Carmarthen, where the worst traffic jam was generally the 30 seconds to wait for the lights on the Towy bridge, and that Drivers of all classes were also so much more forgiving and polite than in the "sunnier southeast" od England.
Our transport options have changed too..... Read more
Interesting. We've effectively done the opposite - semi-retired in North Dorset after 40 years in Berkshire'
What we particularly wanted - and have got - is the ability to go out of the house and hear silence, instead of a constant low traffic hum....
Hello everyone please I really need urgent help we change or car timing belt last year in February in our local garage and last month I drive for a few hours and I park to pick up my daughter and then the car refuse to turn on again and it was making a horrible noise like if something was broken inside the engine and we took it to the Mazda garage yesterday and they toll as the top camshaft its broken to make things worse the toll as the damage on the engine looks really bad so we need it to know the cause of the problem and in order for then to give us that information we have to pay then £200 and today the call us and toll that the reason for this to happened was that the tensioner stop working and that make the belt to be in the right position so it mess up the hole engine so we went to the garage who did the fit job and we were toll tha they change the hole kit the belt the tensioner and few other pices but the manufacture only give a year warranty for the pices that they fit so because we are out of the year warranty tha they give there is nothing they can do so my question is
For a part that they supposed to last for 5 years or 60000miles would it be posible that the manufacture only give a year warranty or it could be that the garage did something wrong that cause the problem and want to blame on the manufacture ? Please really need help here as we just finish paying this car last month and apparently what Mazda say it could cost us up to £5000 pound to fix the car and it's so upsetting that we have to pay all this money for someone's mistake we are willing to take it further if it's a possibility that we can claim this through the garage or manufacturer that did the timinng belt kit hope for a good news please any information would be apriciated thank you Read more
If the parts were faulty they would most likely have failed within a few weeks of fitting. If the garage had fitted the parts poorly then, again, the failure would have shown up within days or weeks.
The fact that it all lasted 18 months says that the parts were of reasonable quality, and that the garage took reasonable care in fitting them...
Hi.

I am trying to improve my knowledge of car headlights and improvements. I have read in specs for Volvo S40 2011 - * Headlight Levelling system * Active Bending Lights with headlight cleaning system.

Wish someone would make newer cars without so many electrical things to go wrong.
They do (Dacia) and they have done for years, but people have been bamboozled by the hype, ably aided and abetted by the general motoring press (our leader excepted, his views/reviews are nothing like the typical sales type mags output) into believing their lives are not complete without all the three letter acronyms known to man as driving aids, or they'll drive their car straight into the ditch should there be no working ESP (extra sensory prevention i would have thought would do)...guaranteed if someone has fitted new tyres to the front the fiend..:)...
Driving on M6 yesterday, southbound, through the roadworks north of Birmingham. All traffic moving at approx 50mph, traffic reasonably heavy. Spotted blue lights in my mirror; all traffic in Lane 3 slotting neatly into Lane 2 to let the two police cars through (one black and unmarked, the other a dog patrol in a Volvo). I moved over too. But in front of me was a black 12-reg Vivaro (might have been a Renault or Nissan I suppose) and the police sat on its tail for a mile or so, sirens and blue lights going: did the driver give way? Did he even notice? No, steady 50mph in Lane 3. Unobservant? Driving WDC&A? Stubborn? Dim? I'm not sure... what can you do? Police eventually got past, didn't pull him over as manifestly they had bigger fish to fry. I rather hope the RK is getting a visit soon.... Read more

Seven years later, hardly worth commenting ??

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought about it being a fuel problem. Any ideas where the air might be gettting in, and is there a way I can locate the leak myself?
