Or better here:
From the very beginning all customers with an EA189 diesel engine were told that the action plan was to 'remove the cheating software' from the cars computer system, which, lets be honest, that is what is in modern cars, a computer that controls everything, some may say 'far too much !!'.
The big question at the start of all this was 'why do we need the cheating software removed ? the car is not going to be tested again to determine its pollution level for the amount athe vehicle will need to pay for 'road tax' or VED as it is now called ?.
As time rumbled on it became clear that head office at VW were actually going to try and reduce the amount of NOx being pumped out of the exhaust from these engines.
There is a very big difference in telling customers that the action plan was to 'remove the cheating software' to trying to re-program the engine management system to reduce NOx emissions on vehicles with various mileage and wear conditions of the engines ONE SIZE HAT DOES NOT FIT ALL HEADS anyone who knows anything about car engines will tell you that as engines wear everything changes so I am not surprised that we read of some really bad cases of ruined components after the 'fix' !!

Hi, back in March we bought a Kia Sorento xt 4x4 2006 model from a dealer down in wales and have not had any problems with it until now. It was looked over today by a mechanic who noticed that the front prop shaft is missing which basically renders it a 2 wheel drive. Theres nothing in the full service history (all but the last 2 services were done by KIA) about it, and all the listings selling the car advertiseed it as a 4x4, do i have any claim here? thanks Read more
It may have been removed to mask a transmission but it might equally have been removed to gain economy as that Sorento wasn't that frugal.
Was this model of Sorento full or part time 4WD, i have a feeling it was a traditional part time jobbie so the front prop would turn but not be connected to drive as such unless the centre diff was engaged...which makes me wonder if the centre or front diff has been damaged by someone driving it in 4WD on dry roads and winding the transmission up until summat has given way....
So my tale of woe - picked this car up last summer, 33k miles, looked great, fully stamped service book inc selling dealer, just serviced. Got it home all well for a while but engine problems within a few months and when serviced looking for faults, the oil filer came out looking like a lunar sample and oil was like lumpy treacle. I've posted pics on Facebook and everyone says it's the wiorst they have ever seen. My Saab guy tells me he doubts car had even had an oil change since new.
I had to get twin turbos reconditioned and all new pipes and gaslets etc as well as multiple oil changes. Still get warning lights about oil the odd time.... Read more
Move on and learn.
Yes. Lesson 1 - check the dipstick as well as the service record. Most cars still have one somewhere. Though it's amazing how few miles it takes for a diesel engine's oil to turn black.

Can this be used with a sealed battery?
This morning around 9am, while I was sitting in snarled up traffic between J21A and J22 on the M25 (St. Albans area) a blue Peugeot 508 came up in between the inside lane and next lane, weaving in and out like a motorbike. I thought it was dangerous driving. But people were giving way because it had the assymetically flashing headlights, and blue lamps from inside, that we instinctively associate with the police. I didn't see the word 'Police' though, and don't the unmarked police cars have an internal police sign? And anyway, surely a police driver would have used the hard shoulder? The reg no. I think was MI65 CUA (not quite sure about the 'I') Are doctors allowed to have blue lights in their cars, and if so, don't they have any training on the safest way to get through the traffic??
I wonder if anyone else has seen this car or one like it? Read more
Many years ago, my older sister's boyfriend had an ex-police Norton Commando (this tells older readers exactly how many years I'm going back ...).
When he bought it, it still had the white fairing and supplemental flashing lights mounted on the crashbars, with the wiring and switches intact -- all that had been done to 'civilianise' the bike was removal of the panniers, radio gear and siren....
Having located the leak on the power steering in the area of the power steering cooler, I am at loss to find the best way of accessing this area as it is crammed with air con pipes and the radiators.
Grateful for any advise as to whether i need an air con engineer to access this area and change the cooler or pipes. Read more
No need for disturbing anything as major as a bumper off job. The radiator cowling and fan come off in about 10 minutes after you unhook the hoses as you lift the fan and cowl out as a pair. You then have a huge amount of room to work in.
Perhaps worthwhile finding a friendly, local, recommended garage to take over now.
No, the make/model in the title isn't a typo !

Yep - now come the jokes - started off (unintentionally) by bernie123 on 'Historic Cases of car makers not being truthful' [www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=110486] thread with his post yesterday about compensation and 'bandwagens'!
Good ol' British humour!
I agree. Google "Peugeot BSI" and "Peugeot ECU" and "Peugeot fuse box" to see examples of each.
The auto electrican you're dealing with doesn't know what he's talking about, and you can't just swap them out....
