My 1.8 petrol 2008 C4 Picasso is misfiring when cold. After starting the engine it ticks over normally for about 1 minute then it struggles for the next 2 minutes misfiring. After this it runs perfectly. Citroen dealership say it's unusual and not really had the problem with petrol engines. The de pollution alarm is standing however I'm unsure if the 2 are connected. My 2010 A3 tfsi has covered 56000 miles, the engine uses very little oil. I'd like to keep the car for a couple more years. Would it be worth running on premium petrol, would this reduce carbon build up on the valves or would it have little effect as the fuel doesn't pass through/over the valves to clean them anyway? Also is there much difference between ESSO Supreme and Shell V Power and could you switch between the two if one wasn't available? Read more
Interesting, yes I will do some exact mpg check on the current fuel. Next month the dealer is going to fit a new catalytic converter at very little cost to me. So to be extra nice to the new cat I will start running on Premium petrol from then. Seems HJ is convinced Shell V-Power is the best.
I bought this car three weeks ago. It isn't easy to start from cold so I bought a set of glow plugs and when I went to change them today I realised that the nice person who sold it to me was even more dishonest than I previously thought. A glow plug has been snapped off. Question is, if I give it a good soaking in WD40 is there any chance I can get it out with an easy-out? I know it's a long shot but I have to try it before I start dismantling the top end. Read more
I am not convinced that a faulty glow plug(s) would cause limp mode on this engine. This is a direct injection diesel system (not common rail),so the plugs are used for cold start.
Evening all.
I've been on the hunt for a Fiat 500c for my other half for the past month. It seems most are overpriced and are out of her budget (Sub £5,500 budget).
However I've come across a nice red one on Autotrader for £5,300

never buy the cheapest of anything always buy something in the middle of a price range.
When it comes to me changing my car, I always price mine as the cheapest on Autotrader. Not because the cars crap, but because I want a quick easy sale.
So I'd never avoid the cheapest cars.
Hi, I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I have searched this site and found nothing. My Outlander loses power/goes into limp mode occasionally. It's usually when travelling between 60mph plus (often when overtaking), no warning lights come up on the dash and if I pull over, turn off the ignition and re-start straight away, the problem clears. Any ideas would be gratefully received as I love the car aside from this issue. Read more
No warning lights, so it's probably not a serious problem triggering full limp mode, does it die suddenly or gradually lose it's urge?
I'd get the fuel filter changed, could be something as simple as fuel starvation due to overdue filter change, when overtaking you're forcing through the most fuel at any one time....
I bought a second hand Golf. Experienced a whole heap of problems with it and the dealer.
Took the car to a VW main dealer to get diagnosed to prove issue with dealer - no joy with the dealer, but VW diagnosed a turbo problem.... Read more
Worth bearing in mind that you don't have to prove beyond reasonable doubt in a small claims court, judgement is on the balance of probability.
Hi guys, sorry if this has been covered before, I'm a newbie here. I have a mondeo 2.0 tdci on a 54 plate and I've noticed it will occasionally go into limp mode if I go quick out of the lights then quickly shift from third to fourth gear. Unfortunately I haven't been able to replicate it under controlled conditions so cannot be sure it is quick gear changes at high acceleration causing it.
Shutting off the engine and restating it instantly cures the problem and I bought a little diagnostic device online to plug into the car but no codes come up for it. The car drives perfectly the rest of the time. Any ideas anyone? Read more
Cheers guys, I'll look into it as soon as cash allows.
Your correspondent consideringa new Hyundai but was having doubts about spare wheels.
I had a Hyundai i30 Auto for three years and really enjoyed the car, in a very weak moment bought a Seat with the 7 speed DSG auto box and hated the box from day one, felt at times it was unsafe unless one was very very careful when pulling away, particularly on hill starts.... Read more
The issue with a 5 year old hyundai was rust and thats a hard one to fix.
That was perhaps the case 20 years ago. Not seen a rusty recent Hyundai round these parts in living memory....
This started about a week ago. If I turn the key to start the engine there is just a click. I then turn the key all the way back and forward again and it usually starts. For a couple of days it was starting normally but this has now got a lot worse to the point it's taking 8 or 9 tries before it starts.
The car currently has 130k on the clock. The DMF was done at about 90k. I can't remember if the starter motor was changed when the dmf was done. Any thoughts on what may be the problem. Thanks. Read more
Check battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight. Also terminals/connectors to starter motor. If all these look good, then it could well be the starter on the way out.
My 206 temperature gauge sho ts into the red in seconds and stop sign flashes, the car does not over heat, I have changed the themostat and snesor, fan operates as it should - there is no loss of water and internal heater works fine. If you stop turn engine off for a minute and the restart its all back to normal

Have you checked the wiring to the sensor? And is your battery and earth points OK? A slight dip in voltage will cause false sensor warnings.

It could be numerous things. Rather than throwing parts at the problem based on other people's experience you really need a Lexia diagnostic (Lexia is the diagnostic equipment just for Citroen and Peugeot). It reads fault codes and will show live data.
Dealers charge a fair bit for this, but you'll find a network of Peugeot Citroen owners with the gear and will help you for a fraction of the cost....
