In Nov 2014, (at about 8pm at night) I was driving my husbands car. I was on my way home when I was waiting at a roundabout, because a car was coming from my right. A young guy about 19 years old driving a Vauxhall Astra slammed into the back of my car. My 6 year old child was in the back and started wailing immediately. I jumped out (adrenaline pumping) to get to my kid int he back and he couldnt be more apologetic and said his "brakes had failed" and that he was "sorry" and "was my child ok". We drove round the corrner slightly to get a better look, and to get out the way of the rest of roundabout. It was so dark I couldnt see much apart from my bumper being bent. I took his number, name, city he lived in (because he didnt want to give me an address) and his phone no. Then we left and took my daughter to hospital to get checked over.

My husband reported it to his insruance etc that night. We got booked in at a local garage a week or so later and needed a hire car etc. The guy who fixed the car said it was quite a lot of internal damage and took him quite a while to fix. The 19 year old had apparently admitted liability.

All was fine until now, 7 months later, the little s*** is now saying he has "changed his mind" and he wasnt even the one who crashed the car. When you google his details, you see that he sold the accident damaged car just over a month ago.... and thats when he magically changed his mind about what happened.

He probably got his car insured by mummy and daddy, and they werent impressed he admitted liability, so he is just denying the whole thing now.

Does anyone have any advice...? I generally dont claim through insurance etc, as accidents happen. I once got a more severe car accident (not my fault) and didnt bother claiming cos the car was a piece of poop anyway. But this time, the car was from a lease comapny so we HAD to go through the insurance.

Obviously because he took so long to "change his mind" I cant go get CCTV etc becuase the council only keep them for 3 months! :( Read more

If your insurance Company paid for the repair and car hire, let them handle it.

If you are saying you informed your insurance Company but didnt make a claim but paid for all repairs/hire your self....

I'm trying to buy a nearly new car from a manufacturer main dealer. The car I wanted that they had on site turned out to be not quite right.

The salesman asked if I wanted him to look for a nearly new one from the manufacturer that matched the spec I wanted.

I said yes and he came back with the perfect car. One catch - he wants me to pay for it in full (or rather pay the large deposit and sign the finance agreement for the full amount) without actually seeing the car. He says they will then order/buy it from the manufacturer and it will take ten days to deliver.

I've always bought cars for around £5000 from private sellers in the past and obviously would never do that without checking the car over.

But this is nearly new, manufacturer approved with two and a half years left on the manufacturer warranty and from a main dealer and I have no experience of buying like this.

The salesman acts as though it is almost unreasonable of me to want to see the car first but that seems crazy to me.

I guess I wouldn't see a new car before a bought it - or would I?

Has anyone got experience of this? What should I do? Any thoughts/tips gratefully received. Read more

However it turned out that after all that, the car had just been sold anyway.

Hmmm - I wonder ....

There are a lot of good arguments for buying a high-mileage car (provided that it's not a diesel) - but if I were going to, I think I'd want it to be either Japanese or a Volvo.

just brought 106 with 52 k 03 plate for my daughter but the engine autodiagnostics light comes on while driving any ideas or is it a case of a visit to the garage.

There is an alternative. Google "Peugeot Planet Map" and it will take you to a UK map of Peugeot owners with the same diagnostic gear that Peugeot use.

The benefit is that quite often they'll know more than your local dealer, are active members in the online Peugeot community, will be much cheaper (cost of a pint) and won't have a vested interest in fleecing you.

Hello everyone, im after some urgent help if possible! I was in an accident on the motorway on tuesday. I was the front car in a 3 car accident. The middle car went into the back of me and the third car into the back of the middle car.

I contacted my insurance as soon as i got home and was going to claim through them, however i then got a call from a garage saying they were representing one of the other cars in the accident (the end car) and that they would take care of my car and give me a hire car. All great i thought so i arranged for them to pick my car up yesterday and they dropped me off a hire car. First point; they gave me a 1 year old mercedes whereas my car was 9 years old!

Yesterday i used the askMID to find the insurance details of the third car ( i believe she is getting the blame as middle car is saying third car pushed them into me). I contacted the insurer who said that a claim hadnt even been registered yet by the driver of the third car and they didnt know who this garage were who had took my car.

Phoned the garage who said they were actually working on behalf of an insurance broker who the driver of the third card was insured with. They had yet to lodge the claim so thats why the drivers insurance didnt have any idea. This set off alarm bells as i assumed the insurer had already accepted liability. I then found out they were actually an accident management company, although looking at their website there is no mention of this.

This was my first accident so when i got a call from the garage saying they were working for the drivers insurance and they would pay i just assumed this was the best option.

Today i told them i wanted my car returned and for them to pick up the hire car. They did this. The agreement i signed when they dropped the car off said i would be liable for any costs they could not recover from the third party. I was stupid to sign this but it is not a mistake i will make again.

I am claiming through my own insurance now. So the third party will be chased for my excess.

What i mean is, im sure the third party will not pay this claims management company AND my insurer? The claims management company will be claimng for the costs to pick my car up, drop it off and for two days car hire.

Going to look at this car tomorrow and was wondering if there is anything in particular I would need to look out for?

Common problem and a design issue with foam pads on the inside of the wing rubbing, there is a tech bulletin from VW USA showing how to fix. VW will pay for repairs if you squeeeze them doggedly.
