Hi I would like to try and get some advide on the following:

I purchased the above car Sept 2014 from a dealer with 17K miles on the car, I also purchased a free 3 year service and MOT plan from the delear. Seemed a good price for £400. The car only had a 3 month warranty from the delear so this has now expired. ... Read more

I think this mechanic needs to go on a Seat training course. The item about not filling the filter with diesel after renewal will cause the pump to fail is total rubbish. There is an in-tank fuel pump that primes the system and filter housing before starting.

My car 3 weeks went into limp mode , with Engine Service Req and High Emissions appearing on the dash. A local diesel specialist undertook to repair the car taking scans of the car with their Snapon code reader. They discovered that the EGR valve might be at fault so removed the EGR / Turbo and pipework and cleaned it all up replacing one seal. They had the car for over a week and eventually when I went back to collect it they admitted they had come up blank and suggested I go to a Volvo garage to get it checked over. They charged me circa £300 which I paid reluctantly after having to hire a vehicle for already a week. I asked ( having read on an informative Volvo owners website ) had they checked all the fuses and in particular Fuse 11 , as this can be a souce of the problem. I was reassured they checked every one but when I got home prior to calling Volvo I checked Fuse 11 - ang guess what it had blown ! I put a new on in (17p worth) and it immediately came out of limp mode. I took the car back to express my concern . They re-scanned and suggested I take it for a drive. All was well and on return the original fault codes were still there. The work they did hadn't removed the codes nor had the fuse , but importantly and significantly the car is fine. Had they found a blown fuse earlier and replaced it the car would have come out of limp mode for them too. Now we are in dispute as I think a gesture of goodwill should be offered. Our initial exchange was heated but I have put a conciliatory letter to them asking for a reasonable response as I now have offered an olive branch. My guess is they will completely ignore my overture. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Read more

I would consider speaking to your local Trading Standards who deal with this nearly every day.

Trading Standards do not give advice (at least not my local branch). You need to go to the Citizen's Advice Bureau in cases like this.

1987, week before Thatcher won the election, house was broken into, passport driving licence etc stolen. Week later with new passport and IDP (but not national licence as there was a strike at DVLC) I flew off to Toronto, hired a car there and later in the week at Montreal, using the IDP as only proof of entitlement to drive, still not sure if that was correct or not, but all these years later it's history.

Dont avoid it, welcome it. I had one in my S-Max (same car mechanically) and it worked beautifully and perfectly for the five years I owned the car.

Hello there, I am having some - maybe rare - trouble with my Focus MkII, 1.6 petrol, 2010. Is anyone out there who experienced the same thing who could help? I would be extremely grateful... It all started after 44Tkms, P0133 lambda-slow response code. Lamda replaced. After another 22Tkms again. Weird, but lambda replaced for quality of Bosch. After another week, yellow control light again and guess what - P0133. Nevermind, car worked so I just learnt grudgingly to live with it. Then one day at ignition Engine malfunction warning appeared. Restarted and all was okay. Diagnostics has shown throttle as a problem. Then it happened again, but after a while was ok again. When checked, the throttle had been cleaned and seemed ok. Then for a long time a throttle problem wouldn´t show up, but lambda thing was getting worse and really irritating. Then my mechanic tried to switch off both lambdas and the car ran just as jerky as before. So lambdas are just consequence, not a cause. Oxygene shocks were proved, insufficient ignition? Then one day as studdering was getting really bad (still P0133 code) the car has suddenly fallen into emergency regime - the problem - throttle (was it P2135?). No problem on the throttle found, but there seems to be some connection between the two. Out of despair, the mechanic has replaced plugs. Suddenly all troubles disappeared. Unfortunatelly, my happiness lasted only some 500kms then it all started to reappear. HT leads replaced too, no avail. Doesn´t anyone have an experience with that or any clue, please? Could a problem be in ECU? Thank you very much and greetings from Czechia. Read more

I have come across a Audi A3 automatic sportback on Auto Trader. It is 2008 with a 1.6 petrol engine. Can anyone confirm if this is the aisin torque converter automatic or a double clutch auto?
Thanks Read more

industryman

I have an Audi brochure which covers this model A3. The auto gearbox options are: 1.6FSI, 2.0FSI = 6 speed torque converter automatic transmission, and 2.0TFSI, 2.0TDI, 3.2V6 = 6 speed DSG automatic transmission.

I am in the market for a 3 year old C Class up to £15k.

I do about 12k miles pa so its not clear cut whether a diesel will be cheaper to run - and given that a petrol C180 is generally a grand cheaper than a diesel and often with half the miles it might make better sense.... Read more
