My 6 year old Vauxhall Zafira recently passed its MOT test which included fitting 2 new front tyres. This is the third set of front tyres to to fitted in the last 10,000 miles ( ten thousand miles ) I am a careful driver and am aware of how to avoid speed hump damage etc.
The car is mainly used for the school run and a daily cummute to work of 5 miles.... Read more
I ran my Astra (same chassis) with tyre pressures of 30 psi and ran into the same problem. Past experience of older lighter cars!
You need to use pressures as specified in the manual. I go with recommendation +2 psi.
Not had the problem return after 20k sad part-worn Michelins.
Too late we did this yesterday in the legal section.

Hi All,
Looking for advice. I have a 2008 Mazda2 that has covered just over 30k miles. I have been running the car without issue for the last three years, and have covered about 8000 miles in total, short journeys to work etc. I have put the car through its annual service for the last two years as required by Mazda at a Mazda garage. I'm wondering, with the car at nearly 8 years old and only having covered relatively few miles both in total and the past twelve months, (office move meant commuting wasn't needed) is it really worthwhile having the full service carried out ? Service and MOT will be about £200, and I've already got it booked in the garage prior to the MOT and service to have two new front tyres. Would it likely be ok to skip a years service, or at least leave it another six months and maybe another 2k miles before the next service ? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks. Read more
Agree with previous comments. Service at least once a year. With low mileage this should just mean oil and filter one year, full service the next. SWMBO used to have her own car. It got to be ridiculous, one year she did 690 miles, the next 800. So we got rid. But even then I had it serviced once a year prior to the MOT. We do rely on these machines and anything that puts the odds against a breakdown in your favour is worth doing.
Cheers Concrete

You purchased the car in Sep 14, and some eight months later are seeking advice .....?
Its all water under the bridge now, the time for raising an issue has long gone
My car is coming to the end of it's 3 year warranty and there appears to be a problem that only occurs very intermittently. There can be weeks before it happens again. After the car has driven about 4/5 miles from cold, when accelerating from lights or out of a roundabout there is a thud from under the car accompanied by a hesitation/jerk, followed a second later by another and then another. As his happens when in 2 wheel drive I suspect the auto gearbox. I have taken it to the main dealer but it performs without any problem when they road test it. Any ideas on what is the possible cause as I a concerned that the warranty is ticking away. Read more

Once again, many thanks DVD for taking the trouble to tel us - much appreciated.
When hiring a car I suggest asking the question about this when booking: it seems that some hirers (e.g. Hertz) require this check code but others (e.g. Avis and Budget) don't. ...
Hi all, had a few occasions were the speedo stopped working, the mileometer read -------- accompanied by an almost impeceptable loss of power. Problem cleared when the key was removed and the engine restarted. Blogs indicated a common faut, most likely the speedo sensor on the rear of the gearbox which can break on removal resulting in a need to remove the gearbox. I've held off getting the work done as its not a good time at the moment. Went to my car this afternoon, turned the key, initially got the warning lights which then faded and then nothing. No electrics at all, hazards, lights etc. The mileometer faded in and out a few times then went completely. I'm sure the battery is OK, not had any problems with it but I'll try charging it anyway (It would have to be completely flat). Looks like I will have to call a mobile electrician. Could the speedo sensor be responsible for this loss of power or do I have two issues? Any adivce greatly appreciated. thanks

Yes, I checked the battery today and the negative terminal was lose. Had a new clutch prior to these problems and they obviously forgot to tighten it! Thankfully this has restored the power and hopefully the speedo too, fingers crossed! Thanks for your help.
Has anyone with above vehicle come across the problem of its engine starting to knock at idling speed when up to running temp? Read more

For radios whose Serial Number begins with an "M", followed by a six digit number, you can use the following link to work out what your Keycode should be:
