The window button only works intermittently, sometimes pressing it several times helps, or switching ignition off. The key in the door lock never fails!!! It will always raise and lower the window, using the key. What is the problem?? Thanks. Read more

Many thanks for your time!! Is the switch a double in 1 housing, or does it separate once removed from the door panel?

The only non turbo is the V6 3.2. Sounds great, but with a manual box just slips over the 225g/km tax threshold so road tax will be higher. I think the V6's are all quattro too.

Hello! Can anyone help please? The last few days I've had a mysterious smell of burning rubber in my cab, starting about a minute or so after the engine is started & easing off as the journey progresses. Opening the bonnet didn't seem to reveal anywhere in particular the smell was coming from, though in the cab has bin getting a bit worse, so I tried not to use it. Today I removed the casing below the engine to look &change the oil & discovered the cause- sort of! Can anyone possibly identify what these vague bits can be please, something's melted & the following had fallen off into the casing!! Much obliged thank you!

ahh, no photo facility! I have some but don't know how to post here, so here goes : several melted plastic rings so presumably was one! 7cm diameter, one plastic cap, raised a bit in the middle 5cm diameter, with 8 small slits in the vertical sides if you lay it flat. metal circular ring 4cm diameter, 1 1/2 high with looks like bearing-racer track inside & 6 bearings about 1/2cm across !!... sounds to me like the aux drive belt tensioner pulley or one of the idler pulleys has siezed and broken into pieces.

the burning smell would have been the drive belt across the tensioner pulley, if the pulley won't turn then it's gonna squeal and burn the belt....

Yesterday I visited my eye consultant ( I had a problem with raised i.o.p which has been lowered and is now managed in the normal range ) Very pleased to hear my eyesight is very good etc.

However, towards the end of the consultation he talked about things which MIGHT happen to anybody's sight as a result of aging ( which we all hope to do )... Read more

Your right - also there needs to be a fundamental change in people's attitudes. We should be trying to co-operate on the road so we can all get safely to our destinations, in good time without stress. Dream, Dream,Dream.

How often do the BRs test their handbrake / parking brake ?

Some BRs, replying to the recent thread on electronic parking brakes, said they very rarely applied the handbrake, especially with automatic gearboxes.... Read more

I was always taught to depress the brake pedal hard, then apply the handbrake up to the pressure point to engage it. This effectively prevented the handbrake cable being stretched when trying to apply sufficient pressure to the calipers. The cable would not apply enough pressure to prevent slippage when the brakes cooled. Still works now nearly 50 years on.

Snakey

Surely the best thing to do is to support both Chris Evans 'Top Gear' and whatever show Jeremy, Richard and James come up with? Then we have two, in addition to Wheeler Dealers, Fast n Loud, Misfit Garage, Street Outlaws, For the Love of Cars, Car SOS, The Classic Car Show, Classic Car Rescue, Countin Cars, etc, etc. Remember, Evans took over Wogan's Radio 2 spot and more than doubled the audience. He seemed to come up with his CarFest idea spontaneously on his Breakfast Show. he does a lot of stuff for Children in need. He makes things happen. If he gets the right people on his version of Top Gear it's more likely to work than not work.
