A recent report says that 20,000 drivers have been caught since September 2013 by these cameras. (I'm a bit confused by the report - on PocketGPSWorld.com - which says these cameras are "average speed"; they don't look like that to me. I also assume what it says also applies to the stretch Jct 8 -10, where there are also variable speed limits.)

The main point is that motorists don't seem to understand how the variable speed thing works. (a) It's a mandatory speed limit, signed by a matrix sign with a red circle enclosing the maximum speed allowed and (b) you have one minute after a new speed is displayed - if it changes - to comply.... Reading this thread, and being of reasonable intelligence I'm totally confused. Chopping and changing, smoke and mirrors backed up by a modern form of stocks - automated roadside cameras.

All the hapless motorist wants to do is to get from A to B, in safety, and in a timely way. Seems there are just too many (often obscure or just confusing) rules and regulation acting as trip points - a whole industry has spawned in driver confusion.

Hi I am having a problem getting my fiesta started! It's been great at starting until yesterday and I'm really stuck! It's been starting fine then I used it twice on Saturday and was fine then I got in to move it and it wouldn't start! The ignition lights etc come on fine and it's trying to start but just won't kick over! I've checked fuses battery etc and all seem ok but I've no idea why it won't start even thought it was fine all day! I'm really stuck and need help! The immobiliser light goes off but when I turn the ignition key and try to start it the fuel gauge and lights seem to flash on and off! When it's trying to fire up! I'm stuck and don't know what to do a alike I say it was fine all day until then and I've never had a problem stating it before! It looks like it's got some type of scorpion alarm system on it too, the only thing I did was wash me car then this happened! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Read more

It's just very confusing as it's been fine, I was even using it on Saturday before it happened, can the battery be a problem even though it's got enough juice in to try and start it? Like I say all I did was wash the car then left it an hour went back and this had happened! I'm stumped!

You say the battery has enough juice to try and start it, do you mean it actually turns the engine over at the usual speed, or does it just turn slowly?

When you washed it, did you use a pressure washer or hose? Could you have got water into the ecu/fuse area/ignition leads/coil packs?...

I left my car at a manchester airport car park where you drive in to the airpark carpark, take out your luggage and the car park staff park up your car.

we were away for 45 days and on our return in the evening, we checked around the car for dents, but everything was ok apart from the car needing a good wash.... Read more

They really should have parked it in a better place. Tree sap can be very hard to remove.

They can argue that you should have mentioned it before leaving, but it's very hard to tell how hard it is to clean without trying. If it had been outside for 45 days then I would expect it to be dirty, but normal dirt ould come off without a problem. I would always avoid parking my car under trees, especially if it's going to be there for more than a few hours.

Does anyone know if I can easily replace the instrument cluster of my 1998 LHD Audi A4 Avant 1.8T with the instrument cluster from a similar RHD vehicle? Will the cables and plugs be in the correct place?

Thanks in advance Read more

This could get more involved than you think. While fitting the pod is no problem, there will certainly be compatibilty issues with calibration and more importantly whether the car will start,as models from this age incorporate the immobiliser system in the instrument pod.I would leave well alone.

In July the new 3 series will be released, how much will this effect the price of the old models given how popular they are?

Should I expect to see a small discount rather than anything dramatic?... Read more

Thanks for the advice. I did look for adaptive suspension but not many have that as a chosen option.

Hopefully I will test drive it and realise that the larger alloys dont' make it as harsh a ride as I feel it might be....

Does anyone have any experience with bartering with garages?
I'm basically wondering if theres any point in me looking at the higher priced cars with the intention of knocking down to within my budget.
The car in question is at Arnold Clark and is approx 200 miles away Read more

If you must buy a new car and happy to suffer the loss in value then go to multiple broker sites and determine the absolute rock bottom price nationwide for the vehicle.

Armed with this information then attempt to even better that with multiple dealerships within a few hours travel of where you live. One desperate dealer in a need to meet sales targets will likely take the bait. If a dealer will not beat the broker price simply move onto the next....

I've been looking for a Mitsubishi Outlander for a while now and spotted one advertised on ebay, autotrader and a couple of other sites which fitted in with my budget at a Mitsubishi dealership last week.

Chatted through the details and price with one of their salesmen and he suggested paying a refundable deposit to secure the car until I could get over to see it and take it for a test drive. Having missed out on one prior to this I agreed and paid £500 which was described by him as 'an amount which makes sure both sides of the deal are serious'.... Read more

Thank you all for ypur replies. I think I already suspected there was nothing to stop them changing the price but it's good to have the confirmation.

The search for an Outlander will continue.
