Old Model being replaced - How much of a discount? - Thehoss

In July the new 3 series will be released, how much will this effect the price of the old models given how popular they are?

Should I expect to see a small discount rather than anything dramatic?

Thanks

Go to Coast2coast - they are renowned for good pricing on 3 series.

As of a few weeks ago, the 'old' cars were listing with 20-25% off list, the 'new' LCI models with 5-10% off. Those prices will probably have moved a bit by now though, as the stocks of the old cars diminish.

Do bear in mind that, in spite of the advertising, this is NOT a 'new' 3 series. It is still the F30/F31 model, but with new front/rear lights and a few other tweaks.

Thanks.

So do I hold out hope that the dealer will match the broker?

If it's not a newer model I should expect a lesser drop in price?

A friend of mine is in the same situation. Found an online broker who was giving 21% off so he went into his local BMW dealership to see if they could price match. They could only offer 18% off the same model/spec but threw in 3 years free servicing so it worked out a similar price.

I went into a BMW dealer recently to look at an LCI 1 series (ie the new model) armed with the coast2coast price fairly confident that they would struggle to get near. The dealer principle rather wrong footed my though by quickly agreeing to match this online quote which was a saving of around 15% from list. I was fairly happy with this since I would rather deal face to face and a different dealer had denied that any significant discount was available after a LCI introduction.

So I have this last question. Thanks for all the advice.
I am looking at a model that has a unique body kit and alloys.

Do I use the broker price as a guide just for the base model with the options I am looking for and add a nominal figure on to compensate for the body kit and alloys that don't come as options.

I hope that makes sense

Thanks

A 'unique' body kit and alloy wheels, on a brand-new car from a BMW dealer ?

To me, it would bring the price DOWN, as it will be a 'material fact' which you probably need to declare to your insurance, which may push up your premium.

Yes it's M performance splitter\ side skirts and larger alloys from a BMW dealer.

Interesting I never though of it that way in terms of looking for a larger discount because I will need to pay a higher premium.

Ah. So it's not 'unique'. It's probably a kit that the dealer had in stock, and needs to get shut of, as it probably won't fit on the LCI version which comes out in a month or two.

In that case, price it as an Msport version, but the bigger wheels add absolutely nothing to the value of the car. The MPPK bodykit maybe a bit - but no more than a couple of hundred pounds. It won't add anything in terms of value when you come to sell the car.

Do be aware that the F30/F31 series is VERY spec/wheel/suspension sensitive. What can be a fantastic car to drive can be utterly horrible in a slightly different configuration.

For example, I've got a F31 (estate) 325d Msport with 19" wheels on. As it has the adaptive suspension, it is lovely to drive. I test-drove an almost identical car, but without the adaptive suspension, and it was awful. The suspension was rock-hard, the steering required constant adjustment, it tramlined terribly. Mine, on the other hand, is utterly solid through corners, but absorbs bumps and potholes beautifully.

Thanks for the advice. I did look for adaptive suspension but not many have that as a chosen option.

Hopefully I will test drive it and realise that the larger alloys dont' make it as harsh a ride as I feel it might be.

Thanks

I would INSIST on a test drive, and a proper one at that, covering various roads (not just round the block, or down a dual carriageway) - if not in the actual car then in a car with the same suspension setup and wheel size.

Seriously, it makes a massive difference, between a car that is great to drive, and one that you hate to drive.
