Ok this may sound pretty dumb to some of you experts here. When you slacken off the lock nut at the track rod end and turn the track rod with some grips isn't it the case that all that seems to happen is that you turn the steering wheel but toe in/toe out is not effected?
Aren't you supposed to slacken off the inner locking nut as well under the gaiter., assuming there is one?... Read more

Go and get a can of Loctite Freeze Release, works very well. Mask off the caliper housing and just freeze the threaded section of the hose. Regards Peter
A couple of months ago we unfortunately had our Citroen C8 (53 plate) written off whilst on holiday in Holland. Completely no fault on our part - driver turned into our lane and hit us head on.
My father-in-law is Dutch and has been in regular contact with the Garage who hauled in the wreck (its a small village...) . Anyway, he spoke to the independent valuer that was sent out by our insurer, and was told that they had valued the car at 7500 Euros(roughly £6400).... Read more
There's a huge tax levied on new cars here in NL, so the new prices are significantly higher than you would pay in the UK. If it's a diesel there's a super tax applicable there, so the price distortion is even higher.
The inflated prices also push up the secondhand market until the car is about ten years old, when the tax is considered to be fully depreciated as an import of that age would no longer be subject to tax. ...
Can I take my kid out on the road for driving lessons under my insurance policy or do they have to have seperate cover while I am in the car instructing them? Read more
Just did a search on tinternet this morning and found via a Guardian article back in 2010 an insurance company called "Marmalade Insurance" that will insure a provisional learner for £85 a month. The policy also gives the learner a no claims bonus, but the policy expires when they obtain a full licence. A cheaper way than adding them to your own policy.
You can check for yourselves if interested but works by insuring the learner in your car. If they have a biff they pay your insurance company which wont affect your own policy....
Hi,
After the replacement of the mass airflow sensor the turbo started to leak oil into the exhaust. So the turbo was replaced too and the garage asked me to let the new turbo bed in and not drive in a way to use the turbo for a 50 miles or so.... Read more
I was just wondeing, is there a set of regulations that covers the use of Green Lanes, somewhat like the Hghway Code? Reason being is that one quite close to me is blighted by scrambler bikes every weekend. Read more
Thanks, will look through things.
They have basically relocated from an area which is known as a common (but isn't and is privately owned) that has a bridal way and is an SSSI. The owners ask them to leave when they turn up, so the Green Lane is the next place to go. Most, but not all, of the bikes are unlicensed (and it is interesting how they get to where they are going as you can only get their by road). To be honest I'd rather they stay on the green lane than the common, so might let it be for the time being!!!!...
I'd be interested to hear from owners of Civic Hybrids . 1.3 IMA
What is your general opinion of how they drive, and what sort of MPG are you getting ?... Read more
If hatchbacks are anathema, OP could always buy the Prius V station wagon:)
After 45 years got "caught" just at the limit of where 1 mph less would not have got a ticket on the motorway. Have been offered speed awareness course and accepted and booked it.

I started my vehicle and there was a rattling sound. The car drove well. After around 2 miles the rattling got worse and then I started to lose power and black smoke and soot started coming from the exhaust. The water level is fine and remains under pressure. There is no bottom end noise.
The engine still starts but sounds as if it is misfiring badly and there is no power. With the engine running I have disconnected each of the four injectors one at a time. Each time the engine stops but restarts once the injector is reconnected.
The fuel pump is working.
We have put it on a Snap On code reader and nothing shows. We have put it on a different code reader and still nothing shows.
Can it be an injector? An air mass sensor? A crank position sensor? A cylinder head gasket? Air getting into the Fuel system?
Any advice/suggestion is much appreciated, Thank you. Read more
Internal collapse of catalyst or muffler?
I bought a Renault Rx4 at the weekend after answering a classified ad on ebay which stated that the car was stunning, excellent driver etc .
When I got home I was looking over the car the next morning and had a good look underneath the car which we could not do in the garage, only to discover that the propshaft to the rear wheels was missing. Not too happy as I bought the car for the 4 wheel drive, which I mentioned to the owner several times when I was there.... Read more
I was wondering if you could tell me the reg of the vehicle you had? I have recently bought an rx4 (blue) that had every single issue you described, except for there had been a prop shaft installed (the owner claimed he did himself) but the rear diff is bust. Same fog light, pretty much all the bearings, a/c etc. Loads of fault codes that since cleared has improved performance massively but still sounds terrible with bearings etc.

What was wrong with the tracking before you stated this and how are you going to measure the tracking to ensure you have got it right. Regards Peter
