My hatchback won't open with the remote key although I can hear something activating when I press the button and there's no movement at the lock. Anyone any Ideas? Read more

Hello.

Yes the hatch does open on the dash button. After further investigation I found the lock mechanism to be sticky and lubricated with WD 40. Sorry for wasting your time. Regards.

Hi, I need some advice.
My ford fiesta 1.25 06 plate was bumped in to last weekend and the bumper has been split and paint damaged.
I took it to a body specialist I know and he said that the bumper needed replacing.
The person who bumped in to my car has taken photos and his body specialist has said that he will melt the plastic back together, paint and then reinforce.
Obviously I want my car back to the best condition ...... If I had it melted back will this create a weak point and is there a risk of me having to replace it again soon?
Also - if anyone knows of any links that discusses this I would be very grateful :)

Thanks in advance!

I am generally pleased with my car except that the front tyres are down to 2mm after only 14,000 miles even though I drive rather sedately. It came with Continental Sport Contact 2 205/55R 16 94V fitted. Can anyone suggest a long lasting tyre? I do not drive faster than 70mph or require particularly good performance in road holding or traction Read more

The Sport Contact 2s are quite soft and wear at an alarming rate. I've got about 20k out of a set of four (rotating to even out wear) on my Saab 9-3. SC 2s were factory fit, but I'm going for Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 2s in the next few weeks. I haven't the receipts to be sure but I reckon the ones I've just worn out must be the cars third set (now 56k up).

Check carefully for hidden rust on the ignored underside. Seen so many cars with immaculate uppers and holes in the sills.

My wife has purchased a brand new aygo fire, at it first service it has had an oil change but contrary to the information supplied in the owners handbook the oil for the first change was not 0w20 as stipulated by toyota but 5w-30 as shown on the service record.it is not a typing mistake, the oil is thicker than 0W20. will this cause a problem,i assume both oils are fully synthetic. I am worried as 0w20 is a high tech oil for close tolerance engines,it originated from aviation requirements, and used by mclaren , mercs, suburu, honda etc..ow 20 is nanotech and specific application, I feel 5w-30 is not right particularly on a new engine, what is your opinion please.?

The engine on the aygo is long stroked with fast piston speeds and for a car revs rapidly, the engine is a development of the daihatsu Charade, and very similar to a laverda triple motorcycle engine, I suspect longevity could suffer with too thick an oil,and of course economy. The latest aygo engines are down ported to assit with the torgue output, and to assist in the economy and clean burn, any ideas? My son is a degree mechanical engineer in aviation and he reckons the dealer is wrong in using the thicker oil, what do think? "desmodromic"... Read more

They probably used 0w20 to get it through the EU mpg and CO2 tests and then put something more suitable in once the figures were rubber-stamped.

Am looking for a decent 2.0 ltr HDi machine that will eat up the motorways and be ok on the shorter runs ..... aren't we all ....... and am unsure of where to direct my search. Having just returned to the UK from the east I've really lost track of what's good and what's not so good here as I've been blinded by tacky Asian throwaway vehicles for a few years!

Some spec requirements would be manual, 4 door or 5 door hatchback car, PAS, a/c and not too many fiddly buttons everywhere (as the 2008 C5 i.e.) ..... my wife has to drive this too! Would also prefer a private rather than dealer deal ... or am I being too sensitive?Last UK car was a Jag X-type but we're over that now!... Read more

I'd add something like a 2009 Mondeo 2 litre petrol to the three Japanese suggestions from gb. Great on the motorway (avoid the Zetec wheel/suspension) and good fun off the motorway, bags of space. The Toyota Avensis petrols have a good reputation for decent economy.

Right then - am off in search of an Avensis or even a Qashqai which 'the Commander in Chief' has favoured by throwing a passing glance in its general direction.. ...

Would buying a Kia Cee'd 2 diesel off Broker A who is selling it trade registered for £688 less than Broker B who is offering the same car but as a 1st registered keeper, negatively affect its resale value? I plan to keep the car for five years. Read more

Thanks for the replies. That £688 will buy me a 5 year servicing package WITH change. Happy dayz. Broker (major online company) does fill me with confidence. User feedback is very positive.
