I am looking to by a Honda car for quiet some time. I did quiet a bit of reasearch and found some interesting facts. One among them is when we look at the national stock for honda approved cars Honda Jazz is almost 1500 pounds cheaper in Scotland than in London. Dont know the reason.

My current concern is this. I found a Honda Accord in Oswestry, Shropshire with a dealer called JT hughes. The car is almost 1000 pounds cheaper than in London. I could spend time and money to go to this place from London for the savings! The question is why is it cheaper? Is it just becasue of low demand or is there any other reason? For example if the car is near a coastal area that can afftect the metal and hence the used car could be cheaper. Anyone tried to find out these aspects for buying a car when looking at different parts of UK?... Read more

Hi Bonzo, thank you for the reply. I checked most of the obvious factors and they all are similiar in the cars that I compared. And presumably this car wont have any "hidden" problems because it is Honda approved(just a belief). So I think we could say less demand dictates the less price. As you know there are dealers buying from scotland the price difference in UK is obvious.

If Hondas 12 months warranty is honoured by delaers nationwide I am not seeing any big issue in driving down the car from Oswestry to London once....

This is a bit of an issue to be honest as I am from Milford Haven and most of the refineries are either not working or up for sale. The fact is as someone else has said, diesel in an abundant by product of refining which until diesel cars became so prevalent, was very much a 'cinderella' fuel. So much so that in the 70's and 80's the oil companies spent millions building CAT-cracker plants (like the one in Pembroke) to get more of the desirable lighter fuels from the abundant heavier fuel oils. Now the tables have turned and petrol isn't so much iun demand. Even the MOD after years of powering huge busses and trucks on what used to be called CIVGAS (low octane petrol) now all use diesel.

I bought my daughter a new car for her 18th, which I'm due to pick up on friday. For some reason the dealer insists on ptting me as the registered keeper (probably because I'm paying the finance !).

Anyway, to simplify the insurance for my daughter, she needs to be the registered owner. I'm happy enough to sign the car over to her, but the V5 can take upto 5 weeks to arrive. Is there anyway I can change the V5 quicker ? Read more

Hi Craig, unles I'm missing something obvious, you are the customer, you "insist" they register your daughter as the keeper

Good luck

Think I might have posted this in the worng forum before, apologies if so!

I have a 52 plate Boxster 3.2s with 45k on the clock, i have owned it for 3 years, but do less tha 6k a year and by no means 'thrash' it! I started it and noticed that the radiator was blowing cold air, even when on hot. Stopping the car and checking the resevoir I noticed it was very low on water and under a lot of pressure. Took the car to my local garage and they said they'd look at it. about 3 weeks later I got a phone call saying the head gasket had gone, which I was expecting, but was surprised given the mileage of the engine.

We discussed costs and the way ahead and was told that they could replace the gaskets and do some engine work which would fix the problem for £2000. I agreed but stated that this was the upper limit of my budget and not to conduct any work above this. Eventually they phoned back saying that they were rebuilding the car and it should be ready at the end of the week. By this point it has been in the garage for nearly 3 months, the mechanic who was a specialist on these engines was away/sick a lot, and as they were supposedly doing the work cheaply, I didnt hassle, but did chase up each week, and tell them it was starting to get slightly ridiculous!

So went in to collect my car, only to find the engine on pieces on the workshop floor. Speaking to the garage they told me that the head gasket replacement hadnt fixed the problem and that they suspect it is something deeper in the engine. They gave a number of options such as continuing to investigate or replacing the engine for a reconditioned one (their preferred option). They quoted me £3500 for another engine with a 2 year warranty on it, they couldnt quote me for the investigative work as they didnt know how long it would take.... Given their speedy work so far, I would like to have the car back before its an antique!

So should I go for the reconditioned engine? Does that seem a reasonable price? They are expecting me to pay the original bill on top, is this reasonable considering they didnt fix what they told me was the problem?

Any advice would be gratefully received as im unfortunatly not made of money and starting to panic!! Read more

Strange though how poor survey ranking/reliability doesn't seem to affect resale values?

Hi,

I have a 2004 (54) Ford Fiesta and the other day the battery gave out. I was driving home and the battery light popped on and then all the dials and internal electrics failed. Managed to limp to a well known chain who promise to fit things quickly and they replaced the battery (it was only giving out 8V). I asked to test again with the new and the readout was 12.5V (low but acceptable I beleive). The battery light was still on, however, when I left and he advised that everything was working fine but it could be the regulator(?). It was BH Monday so couldnt do much about it.... Read more

After investigation by a local garage (finally got the time) this has now been diagnosed as a corroded wire between the alternator and battery which has now been replaced.
