Twingo - New Car - Changing owners - Craigdm

I bought my daughter a new car for her 18th, which I'm due to pick up on friday. For some reason the dealer insists on ptting me as the registered keeper (probably because I'm paying the finance !).

Anyway, to simplify the insurance for my daughter, she needs to be the registered owner. I'm happy enough to sign the car over to her, but the V5 can take upto 5 weeks to arrive. Is there anyway I can change the V5 quicker ?

The owner and the keeper can be two different people I cannot see why the garage will not put your daughter on the log book.

I had a similar problem OP, when I bought a company vehicle for myself ( a motorcycle in this case though) - they 'insisted' on putting my company name as 'registered keeper' & somehow failed to grasp the difference between that & legal owner (which my company was).

Anyway. I got no joy with them (and the V5 duly arrived with my company as 'registered keeper') so I rang DVLA & explained the situation. Upshot was I sent the V5 back with covering letter explaining all the circumstances & asked if they could change me to 'registered keeper', but crucially, not add to number of previous keepers - which would might harm re-sale value or re-saleability etc.

They did this & returned said V5 with me as registered keeper & no increase in previous owners - result. Well done DVLA - they're not all script readers!

Hi Craig, unles I'm missing something obvious, you are the customer, you "insist" they register your daughter as the keeper

Good luck
